Historical changes

After Germany occupied Qingdao in 1897, it intended to develop Qingdao into a convalescent place for German invaders and European expatriates, that is, to develop Huiquan Bay. At the beginning of the 20th century, we planned to build villas, baths, hotels, racetracks, golf courses and other recreational facilities on the Bay shore.

Around 1912, Huiquan Bay has become a famous tourist area in Qingdao. In the later period of Japan's second occupation of Qingdao, the Japanese army dug trenches and built fortifications along Huiquan Bay, making it a military defense area.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the tourism function of Huiquan Bay has been playing an increasingly important role. The people's government has invested heavily in the construction and improvement of scenic spots and facilities along the bay. It has built marine products Museum, marine science and Technology Museum, XiaoYushan Park, Qingdao Tiantai gymnasium, Qingdao Huanghai Hotel, Shandong Foreign Trade Center, Qingdao Huiquan Dynasty Hotel, etc., rebuilt the first bathing beach, and renovated Qingdao Lu Xun Park and Qingdao Huanghai hotel Aquarium, etc.

In the middle and late 1980s, a special catering street with big stalls, which mainly deals in fresh seafood, was formed along Huiquan Bay. It was once famous all over the country. Because of its relatively high food prices, it once slaughtered customers, and was nicknamed "homicide Street" by citizens and tourists. Someone wrote a play "the story of homicide Street" and was made into a TV play, which was broadcast on CCTV.

Qingdao Huiquan Bay Beach is known as the largest beach in Asia. The clear water, gentle waves and soft beach make the beach the first choice for people to enjoy sunbathing. Even in winter, it's full of swimmers.

In 1992, Huiquan Bay scenic spot was selected as one of the "top ten landscapes in Qingdao" by citizens and tourists.
