Beibu Gulf Plaza

Beibu Gulf square is located at the intersection of Beibu Gulf Middle Road, Sichuan Road and Changqing Road in the center of Beihai city. It was built in December 1985. The original square covers an area of 2 hectares. It was selected by six influential architectural planning schemes from all over the country, and the design scheme of Architecture Department of Tsinghua University won the bid.

On the basis of the design scheme, the municipal landscape Department organized scientific and technological personnel to design the configuration scheme. In the spring of 1986, the Beibu Gulf square was planted with plants. According to the plan, longan, kapok, Araucaria, betel nut and other tall trees were planted in the square.

In 1986, according to the plan, a sculpture named "South Pearl soul" was built on the north side of the square. The sculpture construction plan is designed by Professor Ye Yushan, a famous sculptor in China. The whole sculpture covers an area of 600 square meters and consists of three parts: pool, sculpture group and monument. The round pool, 13.8 meters in diameter, can store 150 square meters of water, symbolizing the sea. In the middle of the pool stands a 12 meter high pearl shell shaped monument. A stainless steel ball with a diameter of 1 meter is held in the three-dimensional shell, which symbolizes that the glittering pearl is bred in the pearl shell.

Around the monument, there are three groups of unique sculptures: zhunv riding Chenghai fish, young fisherman riding Chenghai turtle and fisherman riding chenghaima. Each group of statues is up to 5 meters high and cast with alloy copper. In 1993, lighting and fountain facilities were set up in the pool. When night falls, the stele, sculptures, lighting and fountain shine each other. The scene is very magnificent.

From 1996 to 1997, in order to meet the needs of urban development. The municipal government invested 15 million yuan in the large-scale reconstruction and expansion of Beibu Gulf square phase III project, and the square area was expanded from 2 hectares to 4 hectares. After expansion and reconstruction, the Beibu Gulf square is composed of five functional areas: the "South Pearl soul" central area, the assembly square area, the central axis area, the cultural square area, and the big lawn area. The central area of the square with the statue of "the soul of the South Pearl" as the landmark building is the core functional area of the square, and the pool, fountain, sculpture group and the surrounding three flower beds set off the tall and magnificent sculpture of "the soul of the South Pearl", which fully reflects the culture and local characteristics of the South Pearl and becomes the stop point for visitors to enjoy the city scenery and the central landscape of the square. The hard space near Sichuan Road is an assembly square area for small-scale assembly and leisure activities. The main tree species for the greening of the assembly square area are tall and wide leaf arbor basin shelf. This kind of tree has subtropical characteristics. The trunk is smooth and simple. The tree is beautiful and in the shape of a stacked tower, just like a big umbrella blocking the sky, forming a clean and harmonious leisure environment.

The open-air performance square is an open public cultural entertainment and rest place built by using the original terrain, with an area of about 2000 square meters. According to the original terrain, it is built with long water curtain wall, giant relief "Sea Charm" and open-air surface The garden facilities such as performance stage, music teahouse, stepped audience stand, arcade shop, sloping flower bed and disabled ramp create an elegant and unique outdoor environment. The exhibition hall is a unique building with a spherical shell on the top, which is transformed from the reservoir of the raw water plant. It covers an area of about 500 square meters. It is a beam less brick arch structure, which not only retains the historical architectural technology, but also can be used as a public exhibition hall, enriching the cultural content of the square.
