In 1997, the Pearl River swimming course was taken over by a subsidiary of Guangzhou Golden Coast Yacht Association Co., Ltd. and renamed as Golden Coast Water Park. On December 31, 1998, the Golden Coast signed a 30-year contract with Guangzhou Golden Coast Yacht Club Co., Ltd., which officially became the main business body of the swimming pool.

Golden Coast Water Park is a Sino foreign cooperative enterprise under the Guangzhou Sports Bureau, which is a newly reconstructed Pearl River swimming pool. It is the first "water fitness Park designated by China Swimming Association". Due to various reasons, the Golden Coast Water Park (Pearl River Resort) was forced to close in 2009. Li Yusheng, director of the Pearl River Resort, said that "the Pearl River Resort will certainly not be demolished, but there is no guarantee when it will reopen."
