Hulan Catholic Church

Hulan Catholic Church, founded in 1908, is a Gothic Catholic Church and the largest Catholic Church in Heilongjiang Province. Its main building is a double tower French church. The structure of green brick and tile has a strong European architectural art style. Its appearance is similar to Notre Dame in France. It can be called "Notre Dame in the East". The top of the two towers is inlaid with a cross made of red copper, and the middle of the two towers on the second floor is hung with a large bell made of brass. All the doors and windows in the building are arched with green bricks. The European style Domed hall is spacious and bright with two rows of red painted columns. This church also governs the Catholic churches in Shiren City, Lanxi, Mulan and other places.

Architecture

The main building of Hulan Catholic Church is a double tower French church, with a height of 35 meters, a green brick exterior wall, 18.3 meters from east to west, 23 meters from north to south, and a building area of 836 square meters. The shape of the twin towers is similar to Notre Dame, with a height of 35 meters. The European style Domed hall is spacious and bright with two rows of red painted columns. Under the jurisdiction of this church stone city, Lanci, Mulan and other places of the Catholic Church. The blue brick tile civil structure has a strong European architectural art style, and its appearance is similar to the church building of Notre Dame in France. All the doors and windows in the building are arched with green bricks. At the top of the two towers of the main building are inlaid with crosses made of red copper. In the middle of the two towers on the second floor, there is a large bell made of brass, with a height of 1.05 meters and a circumference of 0.95 meters.

In 1908, the French priest Dai Zhida presided over the construction of Hulan Catholic Church after years of efforts. During the preparation period, the famous "Hulan church case" was triggered, and the precarious Qing government rarely fought to a certain extent.

In 1947, during the land reform, the church was confiscated. During the cultural revolution, it was seriously damaged. ?

In 2002, the occupied Church of Hulan No.5 Middle School was relocated and rebuilt.

According to historical records, the church building as a whole is a green brick and tile civil structure, 26 meters high, 18.3 meters long from east to west, 23 meters wide from north to south. The doors and windows are round with green bricks. The European style Domed hall in the church is spacious and bright, with two rows of red painted columns, and the church tower has wooden stairs straight up to the top floor.

Hulan Catholic Church was once the seat of Hulan No.5 Middle School. In 2002, Hulan No.5 Middle School was relocated and rebuilt.

The architectural appearance of Hulan Catholic Church is similar to Notre Dame, so it is known as Notre Dame in the East. Founded in 1908, the church was listed as a protected building in Harbin on June 6, 1995, and was announced as a provincial cultural relic protection unit by the provincial government in 1999.
