Datun mountain

Datun mountain, 1092 meters above sea level, is the second highest peak in Taipei. Among them, the main peak of Datun mountain is 1077 meters (3533 feet) above sea level. Although it is not the highest peak of this group of volcanoes (next to the main peak of Qixing mountain, Zhuzhu mountain and Qixing mountain), it is the most broad and majestic volcano group. The whole Volcanic Group consists of more than ten volcanic cones, covering the whole territory of Yangmingshan National Park.

Tatun Mountain

The general pinyin is Datun mountain, and the Chinese pinyin is Datun Shan.

Datun mountain was formerly known as Datun mountain. Between its main peak and the West and South peaks, there is Datun Ping, which is the site of the former Datun Tibetan community. The old crater, Huokou lake, rich geothermal resources and sulfur hot springs are scattered around the Tatun mountain system. They are mountain resorts in the suburbs of Taipei.

With an elevation of 1092 meters, Tatun mountain is located in Yangmingshan National Park in Northwest Taiwan. It is a cone-shaped volcano, which geographically belongs to the Tatun mountain subgroup of the Tatun Volcano Group.

Eruption status

The eruption of Datun mountain began about 2.5 million years ago. There was eruption near today's dashunzui, forming the original Datun mountain. Later, it was silent for more than one million years. Until about 700000 years ago, another volcanic eruption separated the original Datun mountain into the present main peak, West Peak and south peak of Datun mountain. Therefore, there was no crater at the top of these peaks. Instead, the ancient crater was located between Sanfeng and Zhongzheng mountain.

Datunshan group

The highest peak of the Datun volcano group is Qixing mountain, a cone-shaped volcano with an altitude of 1120 meters. It is also the highest peak in the northern part of the Taipei basin. The parasitic volcano ejected by its underground magma is located in the south of Shamao mountain, a semicircle bell like volcano with an elevation of 643 meters. The valley to the south of Qixing mountain and the east of Shamao mountain is Caoshan (now known as Yangming Mountain). There are high-grade hot spring hotels, public parks, expensive hotels, villas and clubs.

The farmland surrounded by Qixing mountain, Xiaoguanyin mountain and Datun mountain, named Zhuzhu lake, is the origin of Penglai rice. The road from Taipei to Caoshan was opened in 1929 and paved with asphalt in 1935. Along the way, you can enjoy cherry blossoms and azaleas all over the mountains. Down the road, you can see the counter meridian stone, which means compass. This big stone has the phenomenon of North, also known as Yongfu magnet.
