Former site of Qingdao International Club

The building is the first club built by Germany in Qingdao and serves as a social place for the German upper class. After China took back Qingdao in 1922, it became an international club with membership system, and its membership scope gradually expanded. After 1949, the club was closed, and the building was used as the office building of Sino Soviet Friendship Association and Qingdao science and Technology Association. At present, the office unit has moved out, and plans to change it into an international club, and build German beer garden, museum and other leisure places

Former site of Qingdao International Club

The former site of Qingdao International Club is located at the junction of Taiping Road and the southernmost end of Zhongshan Road, Shinan District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province (feidieli street and Wilhelm Di'an pass during the German occupation), No.1 Zhongshan Road. It was built in May 1910 and completed in October of the next year. The architect is Kurt rocker, with German youth style.

The building is a two-story building with a semi basement, dormer windows on the roof and an attic. The main facade of the building is in the south, with a three section shape. The windowsill and cornice are decorated with coarse granite. The red tile sloping roof, which is much higher than the second floor in the middle, intersects with the protruding gable, highlighting the wide entrance of the open-air platform at the top. The south side of the building is a small garden, which can be equipped with an open-air bar with a canopy seat and a sea view.

There is a cloakroom in the front entrance hall of the main building, and a central hall with sofas and a fireplace decorated with colored tiles. In the East is the restaurant, which can transfer dishes from the kitchen in the semi basement through a small lift. In the southeast, there is a bar and a friendship hall. The two parts are separated by wide sliding doors, which can be opened to form a whole room when a dance is held. The east end of the second floor is the library and reading room, and the south is the billiards room, bridge room and small friendship hall. There is a two-story building on the east side of the courtyard, with a squash hall and a bowling alley on the north and south sides respectively (now demolished). There are dressing rooms and coffee stands in the building, and a greenhouse providing fresh flowers for the activity room on the north side of the courtyard.
