Gulushan Temple

The ancient Lushan temple, also known as Huiguang temple and Wanshou temple, is located on the hillside of Yuelu Mountain. It was founded in 268 A.D. in the fourth year of Taishi, the main gate of Wulushan temple in the Western Jin Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1700 years and is the earliest relic of Buddhism entering Hunan. It is not only the first Buddhist temple in Hunan, but also one of the early Buddhist temples in China.

The gate of Lushan temple is in the form of a archway. The four characters "ancient Lushan Temple" are engraved on the middle of the gate, and the famous couplet "the first scenic spot in Han and Wei dynasties, the first Taoist temple in Hunan" is engraved on both sides of the gate, which accurately summarizes the historical status of Lushan temple.

Nowadays, there is an endless stream of pilgrims to the ancient Lushan temple. The hall is hidden between the layers of forest, morning bell and evening drum, Sanskrit sound bursts.
