Henan general convent

Henan general convent is a special high school specially set up for the cultivation of Catholic Chinese clergy. It was founded in 1930 and closed down in 1958, lasting for 28 years. The existing buildings of the hospital include the main building and the church. The appearance of the building is the traditional Chinese style blue tile roof, and the doors and windows are western style.

Located in the east of yangweipu village in the eastern suburb of Kaifeng, Henan Catholic general convent was built in 1930 with funds from the Ministry of communication of the Holy See.

Henan Catholic general convent is a special high-level school specially set up for the cultivation of Catholic Chinese clergy. It was closed in 1958 and lasted for 28 years. During this period, most of the Catholic clergy graduated from Henan Catholic general convent, which has a great influence in China's Catholic Church. The building covers an area of 57 mu, 2 minutes and 1% in total. Surrounded by walls, the gate is located in the west of the whole, which is also classical. There is a reception room on the west side of the gate. From the gate to the north is the square, which serves as a place for students' sports activities. The main building is located in the central part, which is an oval two-story building. It is 31.45 meters from north to South and 75.58 meters from east to west. There are 190 large and small rooms with a building area of 2376.99 square meters. The front gate of the building is a classical archway, with an upright carving saying "Henan general convent" and the small characters beside it saying "the site of the great garden of the Northern Song Dynasty" written by Guan Baiyi, a famous calligrapher at that time in Kaifeng. Enter the building for a spacious courtyard, planting pomegranate, banyan, pine and cypress, fig and other trees. On the upper and lower floors of the building, there are external corridors about 3 meters wide around the whole building, and the four corners of the first floor are connected by stairs. The main building is opposite to the main door. A small door opens to the north of the building, which is connected by a corridor. About ten meters is a small church. There are 15 churches with a building area of 301.7 square meters, which can accommodate about 200 people to participate in religious ceremonies. There are only North and South doors for the whole building. Generally speaking, the interior of the main building is decorated in western style, with ceiling and concrete floor. The electric light is dark.
