There are many stone carvings in China, but most of them are Buddhist grottoes and royal mausoleums, with the exception of the Southern Song Dynasty. In the grand royal mausoleum carvings of the Southern Song Dynasty, no representative stone carvings can be found. On the contrary, a large number of graveway carvings have been found in the tombs of the four most important prime ministers of the Southern Song Dynasty. These stone carvings not only fill in the gap in the history of carving art in the Southern Song Dynasty, but also have great significance The large scale, fine carving and concentrated distribution of stone carvings are the only ones in China. When you enter the garden, the first thing you can see is the five stone carvings of Wenchen, Wujiang, crouching tiger, immediately and kneeling sheep. These five stone carvings represent "loyalty, bravery, chastity, righteousness and filial piety" respectively, and represent the historical and cultural landscape of the Southern Song Dynasty.

The Museum of stone carvings of the Southern Song Dynasty is located in the Shi's tomb road of Dongqian Lake, Yin County, Ningbo. Shi's tomb path is distributed in Shangshui, Shuishui, Hanling, Hengjie, fuquanshan and other places, about 30 places, more than 180 pieces in total, including Wenchen (Zhong), Wujiang (Yong), crouching tiger (Jie), Lima (Yi), kneeling sheep (Xiao), which are arranged on both sides of the path in pairs; some also have stalagmite tombstone columns, stone Taishi chairs, imitation wood stone archways, etc. The highest height of these generals is 3.5 meters. Their depictions are realistic and vivid. Their clothing patterns and armor are delicate and exquisite. They are upright or squat, solid and serene. Even the saddles are carved with flowers, clouds, sea waves, fish and beasts, which are vivid and exquisite. These stone carvings reflect the highly mature realism style of the Southern Song Dynasty, and have high historical value, academic value and artistic value. They provide valuable material for the study of Chinese art history, sculpture history, costume history, architectural history, family history and Canyu history.

Development history

The stone carving group of Southern Song Dynasty Tombs in Dongqian Lake has been in barren mountains and wild forests for hundreds of years. The phenomenon of weathering and alkalization is quite serious. There have also been theft and destruction. Therefore, the rescue and protection work is imminent. In 1999, with the approval of Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of cultural relics, more than 120 stone carvings with difficulties in local protection were moved to Shanao, Fenghuangshan, in the Shijian tomb Road area of Shangshui village by Yinxian County Cultural Relics Management Committee. They were protected in different places and managed in a centralized way, and gradually built into a stone carving Museum of Southern Song Dynasty integrating cultural relics protection, academic research and tourism.
