Nine o seven sufferings Virgin Mary Chapel

Notre Dame of seven sufferings chapel is designed for the residents of Lo Wan, including the recovered leprosy patients and some new patients. There is a magnificent Bronze Cross on the north gate of the chapel, which was cast for the residents of Lo Wan by Italian sculptor fangomesima. Italian sculptor Xixia Jiangzhi also participated in the construction of the chapel.

The mother of suffering Catholic Church, or Notre Dame of seven sufferings chapel, is designed for the residents of Kowloon Bay, including the recovered leprosy patients and some new patients.

Development history

The predecessor of jiuao old people's home, jiuao leprosy home, was jointly built by the Macao government and the church in 1895. The leprosy home is composed of five huts with the same architectural form and different colors. Now it is dilapidated. Located between the easternmost hut and the small hall, there is a statue of Jesus. Behind the leprosy house, there is a path leading to the jiuao lighthouse.

Since it was taken over by the Social Work Bureau in the 1980s, most of the people who had contracted leprosy were helpless and lost contact with their families. The hospital provides services such as meals, entertainment, laundry and daily life to enable the disabled elderly to enjoy their old age.

Exterior architecture

There is a magnificent Bronze Cross on the north gate of the church, which was cast by the Italian sculptor fangomesima for the residents of jiuao. The Italian sculptor Xixia Jiangzhi also participated in the construction of the church.

Tourism development

With the completion of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge and the introduction of more and more new entertainment and tourism facilities in the surrounding cities, Macao is planning to build a theme park in addition to continuing the gambling industry. In the short term, what can be implemented is to turn the existing lichiwan shipyard site, as well as the original historical and religious buildings such as Jatropha house, ancient village and qiku Notre Dame hall in jiuao into new scenic spots.
