Xingcheng Confucian Temple
Xingcheng Confucian temple, also known as Confucius Temple, is a place for offering sacrifices to Confucius in the old days. Located in the southeast corner of the ancient city of Xingcheng, it was built in 1430, covering an area of 16800 square meters. It is the oldest Confucian temple in Northeast China and the largest in Liaoning Province. The Confucian temple is divided into inner and outer courtyards. The inner courtyards include Lingxing gate, Panqiao, Jimen, Dacheng hall, Chongsheng temple, sacrificial ware storehouse, dressing booth, Xiangxian temple, Minghuan temple, etc. The outer courtyard is mainly green. In 1984, it was listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit in Liaoning Province. In May 2006, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
Structural features
The ancient cypresses in the courtyard are towering and the winding paths lead to seclusion, which reflects the strong historical culture. The structure of the whole complex is rigorous and the layout is reasonable. The main buildings of Zhaobi, lingxingmen, Panqiao, Jimen, Dacheng hall and Chongsheng Temple are arranged on the axis of the whole building. There are two stone tablets in the East and West corners, on which the inscription "civil and military officials, military and civilian people wait to dismount here" is engraved. This is the dismounting tablet from ancient times to the present, which shows the dignity of this "Supreme Master" who has made great contributions to heaven and earth.
Architecture of sanjinyuan
The Confucian temple is a three entrance building. At the south end of the East and west walls, there is a corner gate. It is called Yucui gate in the East and Guande gate in the West. The entrance to the hospital is the first admission. In the south of the courtyard is the Zhaobi wall, which is connected with the south wall. In the north of the courtyard is the Lingxing gate, which is connected with the round moon gate on both sides. Beside the round moon gate, a stele Pavilion is built, in which there are six steles. Through the moon gate is the second entrance. The Pan Bridge (Zhuangyuan bridge) in the courtyard spans longitudinally with a halberd gate at the end of the bridge standing on the high platform. The two courtyards, with dressing booths, sacrificial booths, Duoxian ancestral hall and Minghuan ancestral hall, are particularly elegant. Three into the courtyard, the cornice Dougong, painted pillars and carved beams of Dacheng hall will come into view. The temple is dedicated to the throne of Confucius, on both sides of which there are four (Yan Yuan, Zeng Zi, Mencius, Zi SI) twelve philosophers. On the forehead of the gate is a huge plaque of "model of eternal learning" carved during the reign of Emperor Kangxi. On both sides of Dacheng hall, there are East and West verandas, in which 79 sages and 63 Confucians are worshipped. At the back of Dacheng hall, there is an ancestral hall in which the five generations of Confucius are worshipped. This building group is complete, reasonable layout, rigorous structure, and exquisite workmanship.
Dark pines, towering cypresses, winding paths, painted pillars, carved beams and painted buildings. It used to be a place where people worshiped in ancient times. Stepping into the solemn and Confucian temple, people can't help but feel very solemn and devout.
The custom of offering sacrifices to Confucius no longer exists, but the historical role of Confucius will not be forgotten.
