Fengqiao ancient town is located at the intersection of the Grand Canal, Guyi road and fengjiang river. Along the river, two streets, Fengqiao street and Hanshan Temple Lane, are formed. The city is formed along the river and the street is formed by water, which has a unique charm of water town. Fengqiao ancient town is located in the main road of land and water transportation, with boats and business. During the song and Yuan Dynasties, Fengqiao was well-known, and reached unprecedented prosperity in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Tang Bohu has a poem: "Fengqiao road outside Jinchang gate, thousands of lights and smoke." In the Qing Dynasty, Fengqiao has become the largest grain distribution center in China. It is said that "the price of rice can be heard on Fengqiao pond". In 1860, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom marched into Suzhou City, and the Qing army set fire to the city, turning the ten mile Fengqiao pond into ruins.

In fact, Fengqiao is only a common single span stone arch bridge in the south of the Yangtze River. The grand canal passes through here, where is the official road, where the north and South boats meet. In the old days, the channel was blocked every night, so it became an ideal resting place. Therefore, the bridge was named "Fengqiao". Later, it was renamed "Fengqiao" because of Zhang Ji's poem, and it has been inherited to the present.
