Tangli ancient village is located in the west of Xishan island in Taihu Lake. It has a radius of about one mile and more than 100 residents. It is surrounded by mountains and lakes. It has a beautiful scenery.

brief introduction

It is said that during the xuning period of the Song Dynasty, Xu zheqing was appointed the prefect of Suzhou Pingjiang mansion. Xu is a patriotic minister with both wisdom and courage. He likes Suzhou landscape. He visited Xishan hall many times and told his son to "bury me in another day". In the third year of xuning (A.D. 1070), Xu qieqing died, and his son was buried in the hall. Therefore, a great deal of construction work was carried out to build Qiu tombs, halls, houses, ancestral halls, bridges and pavilions. At that time, some officials, dignitaries and businessmen followed suit and came to the hall to build houses. At one time, there were as many as 72 halls, so the hall got its name.

Structural characteristics

The hall is distributed in blocks, and the streets are cross shaped, 2000 meters long from north to South and 1500 meters long from east to west, all of which are made of side bricks and stones. At present, there are more than ten Qing Dynasty buildings in the village, such as Qinyuan hall, renben hall, Rongde hall, suizhi hall, Chongde hall, Shude hall, Liben hall and Lecong hall. Qinyuan hall, located in Huayuan lane, is the largest ancient folk house in the hall. It was built in the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 1622.4 square meters. The whole house is divided into two roads, North and south, with two entrances each. The South Road is Zhaoqiang, the hall, the library and the hall; the north road is guest room, the hall and the hall. Each building is divided into a courtyard by a brick gate tower and walls. Inside, there are east-west and North-South lanes connecting each other to form a connected courtyard. Renben hall was built in Xianfeng Period of Qing Dynasty. The construction form of the book building is very characteristic. It is made of manxuan provincial columns. The step column does not fall to the ground. Instead of short columns, the column head is carved into a flower basket shape, commonly known as flower basket hall. The beams and skirts in the hall are covered with carvings of various patterns. There is a small courtyard in front of the hall, piled with rocks and rockeries, planted with flowers and trees, revealing a strong atmosphere of books. There is a Tangli ridge at the west end of Tangli. The top of the ridge is called "Guanfeng terrace", which is a great place to visit Taihu Lake. There is Shuiyue dock on the mountain nearby. Shuiyue temple in the dock was first built in the Tang Dynasty. The spring is free from drought all year round. The famous Biluochun tea is produced on the mountain. The Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi's poem "looking at the green landscape of Dongting, a clear snail in the silver plate" is the best portrayal.

For thousands of years, great changes have taken place. There are more than 20 Qing Dynasty residential buildings in the hall, such as renben hall, Rongde hall, Qinyuan hall, Shude hall, Chongde hall, Liben hall and Lecong hall. Among them, renben hall, Qinyuan hall and Rongde hall are well preserved. Built in the fifth year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty, renben hall covers an area of more than 2000 square meters. Its brick carvings and wooden carvings on the gatehouse are among the best in Suzhou for their smooth lines, beautiful patterns, lively shapes, fine carvings and high artistic value. The most beautiful architectural form is Rongde hall. The hall is surrounded by pavilions, and its perspective effect is excellent. The ancient residential courtyards in Tangli ancient town have different levels. The size of courtyards varies from large to small, and the pattern varies from long to wide, resulting in ups and downs and a sense of rhythm. In particular, the local style of residential buildings in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty is very prominent. They are not only in the architectural image created by exquisite brick and wood structure technology, but also in the idea of architectural space, which can fully reflect the special space consciousness and aesthetic concept of Xishan Islanders. The architecture here reflects such cultural concepts as adjusting measures to local conditions, space change, group combination, light and shade, folk customs, and even "Confucianism makes people quiet in the world, Taoism makes people quiet in nature, Buddhism makes people quiet in retribution"
