Tianping Villa
Tianping villa is located at the south foot of Tianping mountain, 8.5km west of the city. It was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou City in 1982 and a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province in 1995. The Tianping villa is mainly composed of five parts: mantra bowl nunnery, laiyanxie, fanshenyi temple, Gaoyi garden and Baiyun ancient temple. It should also include "Gaoyi garden" stone square, Jiejia Pavilion, yubeiting and other ancillary buildings, as well as shijingtang, Wanzhuan bridge and gufenglin, covering a total area of about 53000 square meters.
Tianping villa was built by fan Yunlin, the 17th grandson of Fan Zhongyan. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, fan Yunlin returned to Suzhou, his hometown, after leaving Fujian for deliberation. He built a villa beside the ancestral Tomb of Tianping mountain. The pavilion was built on the mountain, with a corridor, a spring as a marsh, stone beams, mountain pavilions and water pavilions.
Tianping mountain is a famous scenic spot in Suzhou. It not only has many cultural relics and historic sites, but also has its own characteristics in gardening art. The pavilions and pavilions are integrated with the green mountains and rivers, the ancient rocks and maple, and the beauty of humanity and nature complement each other.
In the 29th year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, an additional Temple commemorating fan Yunlin was built in zhuangyou. In the seventh year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong, it was rebuilt and renamed as the old Shanlu. From the 16th to the 49th year of the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty, he visited Tianping four times. For this purpose, the descendants of the fan family successively built more workshops, pavilions, buildings and halls, which are collectively called Gaoyi garden. From the tenth year of Xianfeng (1860) to the second year of tongzhi (1863), it was destroyed by war. From the fifth year of Tongzhi to 921, it was repaired one after another, and then gradually declined. It was not until 1954 that the people's government funded the renovation. Unexpectedly, ten years of turmoil not only brought the project to a standstill, but also damaged the historic sites. From 1981 to 1983, it was completely renovated again.
