brief introduction
Zhang Shicheng (1321-1367), whose nickname is 94, was born in Baiju farm (now Dafeng City) of Dongtai. He was engaged in shipping salt. In the 13th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1353), because of the humiliation of the rich, he led the masses to kill the rich and led more than ten thousand people to revolt. The next year, according to Gaoyou, it was called Chengwang, named Dazhou, and named Tianyou. After Gao you defeated Prime Minister tuotuosuo of Yuan Dynasty, he crossed the river from Nantong to Changshu. In February of the 16th year of Zhizheng reign, Pingjiang (now Suzhou) was conquered and its capital was established here, later known as the king of Wu. In July of the 27th year of Zhizheng reign, Zhu Yuanzhang led his army to capture Pingjiang. Zhang Tucheng was captured and hanged after he was released to Jinling (now Nanjing). Zhang Tucheng's tomb covers an area of more than three mu, and the earth seal of the tomb is one meter higher than the farmland. In front of the tomb, a stele named "Tomb of King Zhang Wu" was erected at the tomb Protection Club of Wuzhong in the former period of the state. In the west of the tomb, the original Temple of King Zhang has disappeared.
Zhang Shicheng is generous and benevolent, and his taxes are light, so the people of Wu have a lot of nostalgia for him. As for the accusations against him in the Ming Dynasty's books, they all belong to the words of mad dogs barking at people, and most of them are not true. Zhang's subordinates were greedy, but they were not cruel, and they did not kill people indiscriminately. In addition, Wu was rich. Even if the officials of the eastern Wu loved money, they were not greedy. In contrast, Zhu Yuanzhang hated Wu for Zhang Shicheng's use. He took the rent book of Shen Wansan, a big landlord, as the basis, and paid extra taxes, up to seven Dou and five liters of grain per mu. He basically wiped out the small and medium-sized landlords in Wu in a few years. Bei Qingjiang, a man of the Ming Dynasty, recorded: "the three great surnames of Wu In the past few years, no one has survived, either in poverty, or in death, or in emigration. "
