Site of zecun Library

The former site of zecun library is located at No.2, Yihe Road, Gulou District, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province. This is Chen Qun's private library. The library started construction in March 1941 and was completed in February 1942. It is a three-story, ring closed, western style building with a total area of 47 rooms on three floors and two bungalows with white walls and blue roofs. After the library was built, Chen Qun asked Wang Jingwei to name it. Wang Jingwei took the meaning of "the father is absent but can't read, the hand is rich and the hand is rich" in the book of rites, and named the stack room "the book store". The layout of zecun library is reasonable, elegant and elegant, and it is decorated with oriental landscape paintings by Japanese modern painters. After the completion of the library, more than 400000 old books were collected, including more than 5000 books deposited in Wang Jingwei's "shuangzhaolou" and a large number of books deposited by other members of the puppet government, such as Jiang Kanghu, Liang Hongzhi and Xu Liang. Among these books, there are more than 4500 rare books, with a total of 45000 volumes, such as the song and Yuan editions, the Qing copied manuscripts and the stone printed ones. Chen Qun specially employs 40 employees to sort out and catalogue the library. At the end of 1943, the general collection of zecun library was opened to the public for reading. Later it was the North reading room of the National Central Library, which was used by Nanjing Library. Now it belongs to Jiangsu Writers Association. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Chen qunwei committed suicide. In his will, he declared that all the books in zecun library were returned to the state.
