Damo ancient cave

Damo ancient cave is located in the east of wumadu square, Muyan riverside scenic area, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. It is a natural stone cave. It is located on the steep cliff between the hillsides. The cave is deep and winding, facing the river, overlooking the beautiful scenery of the Yangtze River.

In August 2016, Damo ancient Cave Scenic Area officially opened to welcome guests.

History and Humanities

Dharma cave is in Jialuo peak of Mufu mountain. According to legend, Bodhidharma, a Tianzhu monk, came to Jinling when he was in the Liang Dynasty. After being slighted, he went north to Shaolin Temple. On the way, he had a rest in this cave, so it is called Bodhidharma cave. The Damo cave is in the shape of a dome. There are several stele grooves and niches embedded in the wall of the cave. After arriving in Luoyang, Dharma lived in Shaolin Temple in Songshan Mountain and worked hard to study Buddhism. After nine years in front of the wall, he finally became the ancestor of Buddhism and Zen.

Protection and development

The construction of Damo ancient cave project was started at the end of December 2013. With Damo ancient cave site, grottoes, jialuofeng and Baibian Jinshen square as the core, the scenic spot skillfully integrates the elements of architecture, culture, Zen, arts and crafts to create a light and magnificent Zen holy land.

According to the approval of Nanjing price department, the trial ticket price of "Damo ancient cave" scenic spot is 30 yuan / person time, and the travel period is two years. The opening hours of the scenic spot are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in peak season (April October) and 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in off season (November March).
