Tomb of Deng Yanda

Deng Yanda's tomb is located in Xuanwu District, Nanjing City, next to Linggu Temple outside Zhongshan Gate, South to the north of the tomb block. It is a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. Deng Yanda's cemetery is located in the middle of the nine arc-shaped semi ring "Luocheng". In front of the tomb, there are wide corridors, wisteria covered corridors, and symmetrical four out shaped tomb pavilions for people who come to worship and sweep.

Layout and shape

The cemetery of Deng Yanda's tomb is magnificent. There is a round flower bed at the entrance of the passage. In front of the tomb is an open green grass. There is a cross shaped cement corridor in the middle to divide the lawn symmetrically. On both sides of the corridor are evergreen trees such as juniper and juniper. On the East and west sides of the grassland, there are flower corridors made of steel and cement, which extend tortuously to the front of the mausoleum. Wisteria is planted on both sides of the corridor, and a Square Pavilion is built in the corridor for visitors to rest.

The tomb is made of granite and cement. It is hemispherical, 29 meters in circumference and 4.5 meters in height. There is a garland on the top of the tomb. There is a granite tombstone in front of the tomb, with a cloud pattern on the forehead and a five pointed star in the middle. The height of the stone is about 3 meters and the width is 1.2 meters. On the front, it is inscribed: "in November 1957, the tomb of martyr Deng Yanda, the Title of He Xiangning". There is an altar in front of the stone. There is a very delicate wreath on the altar to express people's grief and memory for the pioneers.

Brief introduction to the owner of the tomb

Deng Yanda is one of the leftist leaders of the Kuomintang, a brave soldier of China's democratic revolution, a famous revolutionist, outstanding militarist and politician, the founder of the Chinese peasants and Workers Democratic Party, and a close comrade in arms of the Communist Party of China. He is a faithful believer of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, a successor to the revolutionary cause, a defender of the three people's principles, a valiant fighter of the bourgeoisie against imperialism, feudalism and compradors, and a powerful right-hand man of Dr. Sun Yat Sen.

During the great revolution, he took part in the Northern Expedition and served as director of the General Political Department of the national revolutionary army. In 1927, Deng Yanda opposed Chiang Kai Shek's betrayal of revolution and military dictatorship, and insisted that the national government move its capital to Wuhan. He was the Minister of farmers of the party Department of Wuhan Central Committee and a member of the Military Commission. Deng Yanda was one of the members of the Revolutionary Committee during the August 1 Nanchang Uprising.

On August 9, 1930, he led the establishment of the provisional Action Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang in Shanghai, the predecessor of the Chinese peasants and Workers Democratic Party. On August 17, 1931, Chiang Kai Shek colluded with imperialism and arrested Deng Yanda on Yuyuan Road in Shanghai. On November 29, 1931, he was killed by Kuomintang reactionaries in shazigang, near the West Village of qilinmenwai in Nanjing.

After Deng Yanda died, local people took the risk to bury his body near the West Village. After the liberation of the whole country, the people's government, in order to commemorate his revolutionary achievements, appropriated special funds from the State Council to build a martyr's cemetery. In 1957, He Xiangning, a revolutionary old man, was moved here and wrote a tombstone for the martyr. In 1981, the state again allocated funds to repair Deng's tomb. The Central Committee of the Chinese peasants and Workers Democratic Party also wrote the revolutionary resume of martyr Deng Yanda, which was engraved on the back of the tombstone.
