Historical legend
It is said that more than 200 years ago, after refugees and fishermen from all over the world drifted to Xunzhou Island, they found that the island was not big and the scenery was strange, the mountains were not high and the forests were luxuriant, so they settled down one after another. In the past, there were nearly 20 surnames on Xunzhou Island, such as Zhong, Xu, ye, and so on. Because the pirates disturbed the people, they were easily surnamed Zheng (the big surname) of Huanggang. Since then, the islanders have lived and worked in peace and contentment without harassment. However, during the Anti Japanese War, Japanese aggressors often went to the island to harass, burn, kill and plunder, and the island residents were in dire straits. In the early August of 1945, the commander in chief of the Kuomintang Fujian Guangdong Jiangxi border region, Xiang Hanping, ordered the 7th war zone to march into the 2nd detachment of the spy Squadron, Yang short, to attack Nan'ao. On the morning of August 14, Yang Duan, with about 300 men in his hands, crossed the sea on a small sailing boat and attacked the European side of the seamount island. After a little resistance, the puppet army withdrew. The next morning, Yang attacked Xunzhou again, fought with two or three hundred puppet troops on the island for five or six hours, and finally landed on the island at noon. The puppet army pretended to retreat, but in fact left nearly 100 people hiding in a big cave on the south side of Xunzhou island. On the night of August 21, the Japanese and puppet forces gathered more than 10 motor boats and a transport ship, carrying hundreds of soldiers. They recognized the fire at the entrance of Xunzhou island mountain in the middle of the night and landed and raided from the east of the island. The puppet forces ambushed in the cave also suddenly got into trouble. Yang's hands rushed to fight in chaos. At 8 pm the next day, Yang's hands were left with only more than 10 soldiers and two machine guns. He ordered the squad leader of the guard to take people to dongpanshan, ran to the beach alone, rowed bamboo rafts out to sea, and soon got on the Raoping boat to rescue people at sea. The rest retreated from the sea after breaking through the encirclement. In the battle of Xunzhou, about 50 Japanese and puppet soldiers were killed by Yang's hand, and more than 230 were killed by Yang's hand.
