Nanxiong Museum

Founded in 1982, Nanxiong museum is a natural history museum. It was rebuilt in 2003 and completed in October 2004. The new building area is 2700 square meters. In the museum, there are basic displays of revolutionary history, paleontology, historical relics, folk relics, etc., which vividly reflect the glorious revolutionary struggle and natural, historical and cultural heritage of Nanxiong with rich material objects, pictures, models and text materials.

Development history

"Nanxiong revolutionary history exhibition" reflects the glorious revolutionary struggle course of Nanxiong people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

Nanxiong is a famous old revolutionary base. From January 1929 to April 1930, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and other proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation led the fourth and fifth red armies into Nanxiong respectively, leading the people of Nanxiong to carry out armed struggle. In July 1932, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Wang Jiaxiang and other comrades commanded the famous "Shuikou campaign" in Nanxiong, which severely damaged the Chen Jitang Department of the Kuomintang. In March 1935, after the long march of the Red Army, Xiang Ying and Chen Yi came to Youshan of Nanxiong from the Central Soviet Area and led the three-year arduous guerrilla war in the south. In this land, Li Letian, Zhong Jiaopan, Zeng zhaoxiu and other famous revolutionary martyrs have sprung up. With their young and precious lives, they have composed eloquent revolutionary poems and become the pride of Nanxiong people. A large number of revolutionary cultural relics on display in the museum, such as Red Army slogans, Red Army pots, earth guns, earth guns and relics of martyrs, are glorious testimony to the fighting course of our party, our army and the people of Nanxiong.

In 1995, the Municipal Museum was named as the patriotic education base by the CPC Shaoguan Municipal Committee and the municipal government.

Collection

Built at the foot of Sanying tower in Nanxiong County, the museum shows the unearthed fossils of Nanxiong through objects, pictures and written materials, and reproduces the dinosaur world 70 million years ago.

There are many dinosaur egg fossils and dinosaur fossils buried in the red layer of Nanxiong. There are Tyrannosaurus Rex, Nanxiong Spinosaurus, Nanxiong duckbill dinosaurs and nesting dinosaur egg fossils on display in the museum. The important discovery of Nanxiong red bed paleontological fauna shows that there are many fossil layers and abundant species in China, ending the long-term blank state of scientific research in the middle Paleocene stage of Cenozoic strata in China, and making China the country with the most complete Paleocene stratigraphic section in the world.
