Sanyuan Town God's Temple, located in the central part of the East Qu Yuan Street in Sanyuan County, Shaanxi, is adjacent to the dragon bridge middle school, with a total construction area of 13390 square meters.

Sanyuan Town God's Temple is an important god worshipped in China's religious culture. It is mostly played by heroes of the local people, and is the God of China's folk and Taoist faith in guarding the city. Founded in 1375, it has a history of more than 600 years. It is one of the most complete ancient buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties in China and a national cultural relic protection unit.

The origin of history

Sanyuan Town God's Temple is the God who guarded the city in ancient mythology. Later it was believed in Taoism, and the temple was sacrificed from the Three Kingdoms to the late Qing Dynasty. Li Jing, a famous Tang Dynasty man who was consecrated by Town God's Temple in Sanyuan. The size of Town God's Temple is the largest in the three countries, and its architecture is second to none in Town God's Temple.

One of the famous Taoist buildings in Northwest China is located in the East Street of Sanyuan County, Shaanxi Province, with a total construction area of 13390 square meters. Founded in 1375 at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it has a history of more than 600 years. It is one of the relatively complete Chinese traditional architectural complexes in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has been listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council.

Layout structure

The ancient buildings in Town God's Temple include more than 40 buildings, palaces, corridors, kiosks and so on. They are meticulous and rigorous in structure and solemn and magnificent. In front of the gate, there is a 10 meter high screen wall. In front of the screen wall, there is a pair of iron flagpoles weighing 10 tons. In front of the main gate stands a 12 meter high Xieshan archway, which is carved with traditional Chinese auspicious patterns. The north side of the archway is Town God's Temple gate, 15 meters high, also known as "Bagua hanging ceiling without beam door", supported by ten columns, carved Taiji map and eight diagrams symbols; the central axis of the gate is 3 meters wide of Qingshi road through north and south. The East and west sides of the mountain gate are the card Gallery, which preserves the calligraphy works of some famous ancient figures; the north side is the theater building, which has exquisite construction art; the two sides of the central courtyard are the bell and Drum Tower, which is 14.5 meters high. The main building Chenghuang hall is composed of worship hall and sacrifice hall. The overall height is 15 meters and the building area is more than 700 square meters. There are 6-meter-high statues of the City God and the four heavenly kings in the hall of sacrifice, and 20 paintings reflecting the ten Hall of Yan Jun and the eighteen floor hell temple are displayed in the hall of worship. In addition, there are burning paper building, East and West Hall and bedroom.

Architectural features

Town God's Temple ancient buildings have a richly ornamented building, with more than 40 buildings, including buildings, palaces, corridors, and pavilions, in a balanced and symmetrical way. They are all built on the vertical axis and the main line, and all of them are built with glazed roof, carved beams and painted buildings, with strict structure and solemn spectacle. It has a good reputation of "taking part in civil engineering and building skillfully". Xieshan in front of the gate is a water polished brick screen wall with a height of more than 10 meters. In the middle is inlaid with the carved "carp leaping from the dragon's gate".

In front of the screen wall, there is a pair of iron flagpoles weighing more than 20000 Jin. The iron dragon is winding and magnificent. There are brick carvings of "Cang Long Xun Zi" and "Yu Long Chang" on the East and West eight character walls of the mountain gate, which are vivid and lifelike.

Auspicious patterns

A 12 meter high Xieshan memorial archway is built in front of the main gate. The inscription "Weiling Zhaoying Temple" is written on the front of the archway. The wood carvings on the archway include "dragon playing with pearls", "Phoenix returning to nest" and "lion rolling with Hydrangea ball", giving people a sense of magnificence. The north side of the archway is Town God's Temple Mountain Gate, 15 meters high, also known as "Bagua suspended ceiling without beam door", because the beam purlin, supported by ten pillars, because of the hanging column and eight groups of brackets on the azimuth map carved out of the map and eight diagrams symbols, and the main axis of the gate there is three meters wide stone road through north and south. On the East and west sides of the mountain gate are the porches, inlaid with the stone carving of "the model of the teacher before and after leaving school" written by Yue Fei. Because of its smooth writing, elegant calligraphy and exquisite carving, it is known as the "three unique steles".

The third wooden archway to the north is inscribed with "Zhi Jiang Zai Zi" on the top and carved with allusions such as "King Yao's visit", "Yue Fei's examination" and "Li Bai's drunk writing" on the bottom. It is vivid and three-dimensional.

The second stone archway to the north is carved with the word "Ming Ling Bao Bao" on the forehead, the word "surveillance" on the vertical flat, and some allusions such as "Eighteen scholars ascend to Yingzhou" and "three visits to Maolu" on the forehead. The shape is elegant and the carving is unique.

Woodcarving art

To the north of the stone archway is the theater building, which is a Jiuji Xieshan style building with exquisite construction art and different styles. On the frame of the forehead and the sparrow, there are carved birds and animals such as "Cang Long Xi Ao", "Feng Ming Chao Yang", "Long Yin Hu Xiao", "Wei Shi Xiang Lin", with a natural and interesting look.

Through the theater, you can come to the central courtyard, which is surrounded by veranda, attached to Quwu, and 18 corridors between the East and the West. The second floor of the bell and drum on both sides of the central courtyard is 14.5 meters high. It is a triple eaves cross mountain building. The building is supported on 12 bright columns, and the three meter glazed "Gao Ming" is tall and striking. The head is carved with dragons, phoenixes, lions, elephants, etc. it is dignified as a whole, rigorous in structure and elegant in shape. It looks like the turret of the Forbidden City. The fourth wooden archway is located in the central courtyard. It is the largest one in the temple. It is engraved with "Ming lingdieyou". The brackets are overlapped on the archway. It is exquisite and full of wood carvings. There are allusions such as "Eight Immortals crossing the sea", "Di bridge covering the sky" and "Nu Wa mending the sky". 58 children are carved on the head, with different shapes.

The city god hall is a large hall group composed of worship hall and sacrifice hall. The overall height of the hall is 15 meters, and the building area is more than 700 square meters. In the sacrifice hall, there are 6-meter-high giant statues of City God and four statues of heavenly kings. In the worship hall, there are 20 paintings reflecting the ten hall God and the eighteen floor hell temple. The whole grand ceremony is 1.2 meters high, and the East and West are erect Hongwu two years. Ming Tai Zu built the stone tablet of Daming in Town God's Temple and burned the paper house in the Ming Wanli period. The East-West hall and the main hall are complementary to each other, which is magnificent.

It is sealed with thick walls, carved walls, carved flowers and covered with colored glass.
