Chikan Arcade

Chikan arcade is an architectural form combining the western ancient architecture with the traditional culture of southern China. It is a commercial and residential building. The name "arcade" describes the architectural form of the part along the street. The part along the street above the second floor rises to the red line of the street and is supported by columns to form an internal sidewalk. In the facade form, the building straddles the sidewalk, so it is named Qilou.

Chikan town in Kaiping has quite a large scale of arcades. There are more than 600 arcades and a combination of Chinese and Western arcades. They stretch for 3 kilometers and have a history of 350 years. They are the most representative Lingnan old city built at the beginning of the last century. The architectural styles include Gothic style, ancient Roman style, Baroque style, Islamic style and traditional Chinese style. Today, the arcade street here has become Chikan film and Television City, which is an open film and television city. It is also a place where local people live and a street where they pass. The street is full of street life.
