Wensu Grand Canyon

Wensu Grand Canyon is located in the front mountain area of bozidun Kirgiz ethnic township in the south foot of the Middle Tianshan Mountains in Wensu county. The Grand Canyon is 80 kilometers north of the east of Wensu county and 26 kilometers away from the national highway 314, with a total area of 200 square kilometers. It used to be the only way to the ancient muzate road in the northern and southern Tianshan Mountains. It was called "kuduluk Grand Canyon" locally, which means "thrilling and mysterious" in Uyghur.

Wensu Grand Canyon is the most beautiful Danxia geological wonder in Western China and the largest rock salt karst geological scenic spot in China.

Wensu Grand Canyon is a "Living Museum of geological evolution history" in Xinjiang, with rare ancient rock salt geological wonders in China, peculiar Yadan geological wonders in Western China, and unique giant rock dissolution geological mysteries in China.

Entering the scenic spot is like entering a beautiful and powerful natural gallery.

The distribution of rock strata in the mountain wall of the canyon is clear. The folds formed by extrusion and the curved lines are very clear. The fractured rocks are sandwiched in the rock strata of the mountain wall. After hundreds of millions of years of wind and rain erosion, it has formed a unique landscape of towering cliffs, towering peaks, different shapes, craggy and strange shapes, strong colors, various forms and colorful.

Cause of formation

Wensu Grand Canyon is a stratum deposited by inland lakes 26 million years ago.

It was formed by the joint action of flood, rain erosion and strong wind erosion in the Cretaceous of Mesozoic more than 100 million years ago.

The panoramic view is the geological relic and landscape represented by rock salt karst landform and Yadan landform.

The section of the Grand Canyon is about 10 kilometers long, north-south, 200-300 meters wide, and only one person can pass through the narrow section.

Walking into the Grand Canyon, there are many magical, solemn and breathtaking wonders on both sides of the canyon due to wind, solar eclipse and rain erosion, such as hero Valley, Youqing Valley, Shuangta Valley, Zilan mountain, Huyang Shuangxiong, wanseng pilgrimage, Millennium castle, Qianshan Xiongfeng, space visitors, Post Road City, battle between two towers, sentimental figurines, ancient murals, thousand houses and ten thousand pagodas, a line of clouds and a flying star river Waterfall, sanxinshi, eryizhu, giant ferry, chizhupo, xiongbiankou, wangxinmen, chishadun and other magnificent mountain shapes are difficult to express clearly in words.

Protection work

On July 25, 2008, the Bureau of land and resources of Wensu County invited experts from Xinjiang geological heritage survey and evaluation center to visit the geological relics of the Grand Canyon in Tomur to carry out the preliminary preparation for the investigation and approval of the National Geopark project.

This marks the official start of the application for "National Geopark" of the magic Grand Canyon of Tomur.

Experts believe that in 2008, it was known that the Grand Canyon is a comprehensive "Geological Museum" with five landforms including Danxia, Yadan, ciyadan, rock salt karst and unique salt dome bottom cleavage structure.

According to experts' research, up to 2008, China has not found any geological landform similar to kuduluke Grand Canyon in Wensu County, so it has strong scientific research value and tourism development value.

The Grand Canyon geological heritage protection and the start of the National Geopark project are not only conducive to the effective protection, rational development and utilization of geological heritage resources, but also provide more basis for carrying out more extensive geological research.

Living museum

Wensu Grand Canyon, known as "Living Museum of geological evolution history", has become an important tourist attraction in Xinjiang along the silk road.

The master plan of Wensu Grand Canyon Scenic Spot in Aksu region, compiled by China urban planning and Design Institute and other well-known planning experts, passed the evaluation of experts in the autonomous region on January 7, 2009.

To the northwest of the Grand Canyon, you can see the famous snow peak Tomur peak, to the west you can reach Wensu Shenmu garden, to the east you can see the famous old XIATE road and kuci cultural tourism area, and to the South you can see the Taklimakan Desert.

Wensu grand canyon tourism route is characterized by "one peak and one valley", which can be expanded to "one desert and one river" to the south, forming a situation of mutual development of dislocation tourism products.
