Feisha weir is the key of Dujiangyan to ensure that Chengdu Plain is free from flood. Its main function is that when the water volume of Neijiang River exceeds the upper limit of baopingkou flow, the excess water will overflow from Feisha weir; in case of extraordinary flood, it will break the dike and let a large amount of river water return to the normal flow of Minjiang River. Another function is "flying sand". The Minjiang River comes from the mountains, carrying a large amount of sand and stones. If they are allowed to go down the Neijiang River, they will block baopingkou and the irrigation area. Feisha weir is really considerate and difficult for people to get rid of. It can throw the sediment and pebbles from the upstream, even the huge stones weighing a thousand jin, into the outer river (mainly by skillfully using centrifugal force) to ensure the smooth flow of the inner river.
