Legend of Dragon Cave

Taihang Dragon Cave has a long and mysterious legend. It is said that this place was the vast sea at that time. Taihang Dragon Cave was the palace of the Dragon King of the East China Sea, and the palace was very lively. Later, a high mountain rose in the sea, which is now Taihang Mountain. Taihang Dragon Cave surfaced, and the Dragon King of the East China Sea chose another palace. It is said that the Dragon King of the East China Sea missed his former palace. From then on, the people called this cave Taihang Dragon Cave. The legend of the Dragon Cave has been handed down to this day. At the same time, according to the local people, during the Anti Japanese War, there was a small detachment of the Eighth Route Army in this cave to escape the Japanese.

The origin of Longdong

Taihang Longdong is located in the eastern margin of Qinshui depression. The exposed strata in the area mainly include Proterozoic Changcheng System, Paleozoic Cambrian system, Ordovician system, Carboniferous system, Permian system, Mesozoic Permian system, Cenozoic tertiary system, quaternary system, etc. Taihang Longdong is developed in the upper Cambrian dolomite strata. The cave body was formed during the Himalayan movement, and the karst landscape in the cave was formed 23 million years ago. Due to the dry and cold climate of the cave, the intensity and scale of karstification is small, the entrance of Longdong Cave is narrow, and the precipitation infiltrating into the cave is not easy to evaporate, forming a relatively humid climate. A large amount of travertine is deposited in Longdong, forming a unique landscape. The Dragon Cave is divided into four layers, with a total length of more than 2000 meters. There are more than 400 scenic spots. At present, there are three layers and more than 300 scenic spots open to the outside world. Taihang Dragon Cave has the characteristics of both southern and Northern karst caves.

Characteristics of Dragon Cave

The karst rocks in the cave are scattered in an orderly way, and there are many caves in the cave, which are crystal clear and transparent. Stone flower, stone pillar, stalactite, stone waterfall, stalagmite cluster, stone mushroom group, stone curtain, stone pagoda, stone bell, stone grape, stone man, stone lion, goose tube and other calcified landscapes with peculiar shapes climb along the four walls, which are of high scientific research value and ornamental value. Outside the cave, surrounded by mountains, dense forest, birds singing and flowers, beautiful scenery.

1. All kinds of peculiar karst landscapes are comparable to those of southern karst caves.

2. In the cave, there are goose tubes formed by karst drops. No matter how big or small, most of them are hollow from the cross section. It seems that there is a musical sound when you tap them.

3. Inside the cave is the largest karst Optimus in North China.

4. In the center of the hall on the third floor is the largest moonmilk stone rarely seen in China.

5. There are clear rings in hall 2 on the third floor. According to the stripes, we can analyze the climate characteristics at that time.

6. The karst water drops in cave 2 on the third floor form a clear ring layer, which is a rare and peculiar travertine landscape in China. It is lifelike and climbs along the four walls. It is the first karst cave in North China after geological experts' investigation.
