Wanshou pagoda

Wanshou pagoda is an ancient pagoda in Jingzhou, Hubei Province, also known as Jieyin pagoda.

Wanshou tower is located at the south end of Jingzhou City and above xiangbijitou in Wanshou garden of Jingjiang dike. Longevity pagoda is 40.76 meters high, with eight sides and seven floors. It is a pavilion style brick stone imitation wood structure.

A brief introduction to the pagoda

Wanshou pagoda is also called Jieyin pagoda. It is located at the south end of Jingzhou City, above xiangbijitou in Wanshou garden of Jingjiang dike.

Wanshou pagoda according to the inscriptions in the record of Wanshou pagoda built by Emperor xianding of Liao Dynasty, the pagoda was built for Jiajing emperor by the order of the seventh generation of Emperor Zhu xianzun's mother, Princess Mao. The construction of the pagoda started in 1548 and was completed in 1552.

Wanshou pagoda, meaning good weather and boundless longevity, is called "Wanshou pagoda". During the reign of Emperor Kangxi, Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty, the pagoda was repaired. During the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty, the bottom of the pagoda was reinforced with cast iron hoops. As the original intention was to pray for the Jiajing emperor's birthday, the bricks were donated by believers from all over the world, totaling more than 2300 pieces, each of which was engraved with the name of the native place of the person who offered them.

Layout structure

Longevity pagoda is 40.76 meters high, with eight sides and seven floors. It is a pavilion style brick stone imitation wood structure. The full text of Vajra Sutra is engraved on it, which is a rare cultural relic. The pagoda is 7.29 meters deep in the dike, and both sides of the Jingjiang River are full of floods. Therefore, the pagoda later became the spiritual sustenance of the people on both sides of the river to subdue the flood demons. The reason why the pagoda is deep under the dike is that the water level of the Yangtze river bed keeps rising, and the dike of the Jingjiang River keeps rising.
