Xunyi County Museum

Xunyi County Museum, built in 1984, is located on the west side of the stadium, Chengdong street, Xunyi County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. On display in the museum are the Xunyi Yellow River Stegodon fossils about 3 million years ago, the world's first plate toothed rhinoceros fossils and dinosaur footprints about 120 million years ago. Xunyi County Museum also includes the national key cultural relics protection unit, the Northern Song Dynasty pagoda, the solemn and majestic Ming Dynasty Confucian temple, and the Ming and Qing Dynasty stone art tie horse stake. There are more than 3600 cultural relics in the collection, including 183 precious ones.

Collection

The "Xunyi Yellow River Saber Toothed elephant" fossil on display in the Museum of ancient elephant fossils was unearthed in Xiyuan village, Malan Town, Xunyi County in 1975. It is 8.45 meters long and 4.3 meters high. It lived in the Pleistocene about 3 million years ago. The size of the elephant fossil and the size of its ivory are among the largest in the world, known as "the world's first elephant". At the same time, the fossil rhinoceros on display is the first complete skeleton of plate toothed rhinoceros in the world. It is 4.8 meters long and 3.1 meters high. It was unearthed in the same place with the fossil elephant and lived at the same time. They are important specimens for studying paleogeology, paleoclimate, paleogeomorphology and paleontology of the Loess Plateau in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. Taita, also known as Xunyi pagoda, was built in the fourth year of Jiayou (1059) of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is 53 meters high. It is an octagonal seven story pavilion type masonry structure. There are wooden stairs to climb the top floor, giving you a panoramic view of the county. In 2001, the State Council announced it as a national key cultural relics protection unit. Taita is majestic, tall and upright, exquisite and smart. It is still the landmark building of the county and the symbol of Xunyi ancient civilization.

The Confucian temple, built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1583), sits on the south side of the north with five rooms wide and three rooms deep. The roof of the temple is Xieshan. The two ends of the main ridge are more than one meter high, and each end of the vertical ridge has a ridge beast. The four eaves are all decorated with Dou Gong, which is one Dou with three liters and five colors. The structure of the whole building is rigorous, solemn and spectacular, which fully reflects the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty.

There are more than 70 stone carvings on display. There are five types of modeling: figure, animal, plant, human and animal, and geometry. It is a group of relatively mature folk art works with rich modeling, unconventional, varied, exquisite techniques and exquisite workmanship.

In 2004, the museum raised 5 million yuan, expropriated 10000 square meters of land, built perspective wall, parking lot, Bell Pavilion, rockery, made stone elephant, paved concrete road, and made greening, beautification and lighting in the museum. Today, the museum is full of colorful, green trees, flowers in three seasons and evergreen in four shows, creating a beautiful and comfortable tourism environment for tourists.
