It is said that during the Zhenguan period in the early Tang Dynasty, there were frequent droughts and floods in the area of zaohu, resulting in no harvest for farmers. At that time, there was a big family named Cao and Li. They looked at each other and worried about each other, but they had nothing to do. Cao and Li were deeply influenced by the stories of the sages who dug up fields to build lakes. They decided to follow the example of their forefathers and let their fields out to dig earth to build lakes. The two held a meeting of clansmen to announce the decision. The villagers were so moved that they proposed to do their duty to dig the lake. Cao and Li vacated the fields under the gate and the pond, and the whole family of the villagers went out to work day and night. They dug up the soil and piled it up on the north, East and West. Soon, three mountains were formed. After a year of intermittent hard work, the bottom of a 500 mu lake has been excavated. On rainy days, when water accumulates at the bottom of the lake, the bottom of the lake is gradually filled with water, and on dry days, irrigation is started. After the lake was dug up, the good farmland within a few miles was protected from drought and flood, and the villagers no longer had to worry about the continuous rainy season and the dry season. The homonym "zaoli" was chosen as the name of the lake to commemorate the achievements of the ancestors. Today, zaoli lake has a water area of more than 1500 mu, irrigates thousands of hectares of farmland, and directly benefits tens of thousands of people. It is on this side of the soil and water that all the people in my hometown live and prosper. Because of the moving legend, zaoli lake is certainly fascinating for its beautiful scenery and rich products.
