Red and white ancient trees are two 500 year old trees at the entrance of Hongcun village. One is called gufengyang, which is called red poplar locally; the other is called gingko, which is called Baiguoshu locally.

These two big trees are the "horns" of the ox shaped village, and the "Fengshui tree" of Hongcun village, which is a symbol of good luck. According to the old custom here, people in the village hold a wedding ceremony, and the bride's sedan chair should circle around the red poplar tree, which indicates that the new couple will be happy for a hundred years, and the red happiness will be equal to the sky; when the old man dies, he should carry the coffin and circle around the white fruit tree, which means that his descendants will be full of happiness and longevity.

On the north side, the red poplar is 19 meters high and 6 meters in circumference. It takes four or five people to embrace it. The crown is shaped like a giant umbrella, covering several acres of land at the entrance of the village in the shade. The white fruit tree on the south side is 20 meters high, shaped like a sword, piercing the sky. Because gingko is a rare tree species in the world, and this gingko is 500 years old, so everyone calls this gingko a "treasure" in the village.
