The old street of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Lichuan is one of the well preserved ancient streets in Jiangxi Province. The former residence of Zhang Henshui. It has become a consensus of many tourists. It is located on the Bank of Litan River in the south of the county, with an area of 0.4 square kilometers and a population of 23000. Lichuan ancient city is one of the ancient cities in Jiangxi Province. The existing old streets are adjacent to more than 600 arcade shops. There are more than 100 well preserved Ming and Qing ancient buildings with the characteristics of Jiangnan folk houses. Among them, Fengqiao bridge and Henggang bridge are also connected in series. They are municipal cultural relics protection buildings and corridor bridges with great ornamental value and historical value.

Historical evolution

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the town of Litan, located in the middle reaches of the Litan River, gradually developed into an important market in several neighboring counties of Jiangxi and Fujian provinces relying on the advantages of water transportation. It concentrated on the wholesale and retail of commodities, bulk trading and various characteristic handicraft workshops, and also attracted many rich businessmen to settle here. It gradually formed a large-scale arcade commercial street for both buyers and sellers, known as the "Long Street" Lichuan "ten mile long street".

Today's transformation

In September 2013, Lichuan County Party committee and government started the comprehensive transformation of the old street due to the increasingly prominent problems of fire control, health, transportation and so on. At the beginning of 2013, the 690 meter long reconstruction project of the first phase of the old street was basically completed, and the "Beijing Opera box office" and Yichun Opera Troupe were established in the old street to prosper the economy and culture of the old street. In order to optimize the function of the ancient city and enhance its vitality, the county commissioned the architectural design and Research Institute of Shanghai Tongji University to prepare the detailed planning for the protection and reconstruction of the ancient city and other special plans. According to the principle of "paying equal attention to protection and development", the renovation project plan is designed. The old town will rebuild "Baidian", restore "Baitang" (400 old streets in Ming and Qing Dynasties), excavate "Baiye" (Lichuan characteristic intangible cultural heritage project), commemorate "Bairen" (historical celebrities), and fully implement the protection and development project of Lichuan ancient city.

Transformation concept

With hundreds of years of history, the protection and comprehensive renovation project of the historical and cultural blocks of the arcade buildings in Lichuan ancient city has begun. According to the renovation project plan of the ancient city and the concept of "culture as the soul, ecology as the background, tourism as the eye", the project aims to rebuild "Baidian", repair "Baitang", excavate "Baiye", commemorate "Bairen", and create the characteristics and style of the old streets in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
