Hanshan lake is located at the foot of Dapan mountain, adjacent to Pan'an County. The rainwater collection area is 296 square kilometers, with a total storage capacity of 200 million cubic meters. The lake covers an area of 9600 mu, six times that of the West Lake. There are 37 harbors and 9 islands with picturesque scenery. The lake is rippling with green waves, and the mountains are beautiful with picturesque reflections. There are many kinds of migratory birds under international joint protection and rare birds and beasts under national first-class protection. Here, you can see the morning sun, the red waves, the sunset, the golden light, the bright moon, the silent shadow and the cool wind in summer. During the boating, the swimmers have the feeling of being relaxed and happy.

The main buildings in the lake area include dam, water conveyance and power generation tunnel and power station. The double curvature arch dam is 74.3 meters high and 266 meters long. It is like a giant dragon lying between the two mountains, locking up thousands of hectares of blue waves in the upstream. When water is released, eight silver dragons fall from the sky, thundering and snowing, which is very spectacular. The whole dam is novel in design and beautiful in appearance. It has won the National Engineering Design Excellence Award and the silver award for engineering quality.

Through a 234 meter long tunnel, the lake water is sent to Xitou Chenfa power station. The installed capacity of the power station is 3 × 2000 kW. The modern hydropower facilities and the beautiful and quiet garden architecture are integrated, which is novel and unique, and the scenery is unique.

The tail water of the power station is connected with the buildings in the north main channel. The canal water flows eastward and can irrigate 180000 mu of farmland, accounting for 62% of the county's cultivated land. There are more than 620 large and small buildings along the line, which is the longest trunk canal in our province. The "red flag aqueduct" connecting the East and West irrigation areas is 824 meters long, 28 meters high, with a main span of 11 meters. From afar, it looks like a rainbow flying in the air. It is known as "Tianshui ferryboat" and is the largest multi span masonry arch aqueduct in China.

Hanshan lake is gradually becoming a tourist resort with strong local characteristics and cultural taste, which integrates power generation, irrigation, rest and recuperation.
