Today, it has evolved into the most distinctive international art village in Taipei. It is a treasure rock with layers of narrow houses and the memory of generations living in Taipei.

History of treasure rock

Baozangyan was originally a mountain temple built on the northern slope of hukong mountain. After 1960, due to the deregulation of the authorities, local veterans, ex servicemen and vulnerable groups have moved in one after another, and a large number of illegal buildings have been built along the mountain. These buildings, known as "Dependents Village", are stacked in different layers and crisscrossed. In the 1980s, they reached a scale of 4 hectares and more than 200 households. Although the appearance is not neat and beautiful, but also formed a unique style. Later, because of the aging and disrepair, the ecological environment can not bear the sudden surge of population, people's quality of life began to decline, and a series of problems and disputes about whether the settlement should be preserved or not, the original household resettlement and so on. Fortunately, after the discussion and research of people and groups from all walks of life, a series of settlement preservation movements were promoted, and the future operation direction was proposed to develop towards art and Cultural Exhibition Park, which established the trend of establishing Art Village in the future. Finally, in 2004, it was officially registered as a historical building and preserved in the form of settlement activation. The art team officially entered into operation in 2010, becoming today's treasure Rock International Art Village.
