Xiling Xiakou scenic spot is located in the western suburb of Yichang City, 4 kilometers away from the center of Yichang City, 20 kilometers away from the Three Gorges International Airport, and 5 kilometers away from Yichang railway station. The scenic spot starts from Gezhouba in the East and ends at the Three Gorges Dam in the west, with a total area of 142 square kilometers. It is known as "the gateway of the Three Gorges and the throat of Sichuan and Hubei". It is one of the first batch of national key scenic spots in China, is a national AAAA scenic spot, and is one of the "top ten scenic spots in China".

Historical evolution

Xiling Xiakou scenic spot has a long history and civilization. It is one of the birthplaces of Chu culture. Archaeological excavation has proved that human beings have been living here as early as 800000 years ago.

In the 20th century, due to the chaos of war and the lack of protection, many historical relics and landscapes in Xiakou area were destroyed.

After liberation, Yichang municipal Party and government began to pay attention to the protection and development of tourism resources in Xiakou scenic spot. After the construction of Gezhouba Water Control Project, the local government invested in the construction of Sanyou cave, Baima cave, Longquan cave, Taohua village, Leizu temple and other scenic spots, and opened up Xialao River, Xianren River and other natural tourist routes.

Meteorology and climate

Xiakou scenic spot is located in the east of subtropical zone and the north of Tropic of cancer. Its climate is classified as subtropical humid climate in Central China monsoon area. Due to the influence of topography and geomorphology, the climate features of early spring, summer temperature, late autumn, warm winter, higher autumn temperature than spring temperature, more spring rain than autumn rain, concentrated summer rainfall and hot rain in the same season are formed. The lowest monthly average temperature is - 0.1 ℃～ 5 ℃, the highest is 21.5 ℃～ 28.4 ℃, the average annual temperature is higher than 16.8 ℃, the average annual precipitation is 1213.6 mm, the average annual relative humidity is 77%, the dominant wind direction is southeast wind, the annual static wind is dominant, the average monthly wind speed for many years is 0.8 to 1.2 m / s, and the static wind frequency is 31.14%.

Geology and geomorphology

The geological structure of the scenic spot belongs to the east end of Huangling anticline, and the mountain regime, hydrology, mountain range, rock strike and water flow of the whole area are oval shaped with Huangling anticline as the center. Yanshan orogeny in Northwest China uplifted and formed a continent with a large rising range. Southeast China is the west edge of Yichang monoclinic depression in Jianghan Plain subsidence zone. Therefore, the terrain in this area is high in Northwest and low in southeast, showing the characteristics of northwest southeast gradient descent. The dip angle of rock strata is relatively slow in the east wing, about 7-14 ℃, and steep in the west wing, about 12-15 ℃.

Because of the great relief, there are four geomorphic units with great height difference in this area, namely, Xiling Gorge valley area, 500-800 m low mountain area, 800-1200 m low and middle mountain area, and 1200-2000 M middle mountain area.

The strata are distributed in the northwest of China, which are old strata with complex rock types; the strata in the East and West are relatively new, and the rock types are relatively simple. Granite, sandstone, limestone, conglomerate and purplish red sandstone are distributed along the Yangtze River. Among them, carbonatite is the most widely distributed.

Main attractions

Xiling Gorge, 76 kilometers long, is the longest gorge in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Because it is located in the west of the west of Chu and Yiling (Yichang ancient name), it is called Xiling Gorge, which is the longest gorge in the Three Gorges. From top to bottom, it is divided into four sections: Xiangxi wide valley, Xiling Gorge upper wide valley, miaonan wide valley and Xiling Gorge lower wide valley. Along the river are Badong, Zigui and Yichang.

Since its opening to the outside world in 1979, the scenic spot has formed eight scenic spots: Leizu temple, Taohua village, Baima cave, Wuzhou leisure and entertainment park, Xialao River (natural bath, drifting), Longquan stone tree garden, Xianren River and forest park.

Leizu Temple

The predecessor of Leizu temple, Xiling mountain temple, was built in Ming Dynasty. In front of the temple, there are 108 blue stone steps and a mountain gate at 70 steps. After crossing the mountain gate and climbing 38 steps, you can enter the temple gate. On the forehead of the gate, there are three big characters of "Xiling mountain" in red lacquer. The first main hall of the mountain temple is Lingxiao hall, which is dedicated to the statues of Xuanyuan Yellow Emperor and Leizu empress. Every year, the temple holds three grand events: the ninth day of the first month of the lunar calendar to commemorate the birth of emperor Xuanyuan, the 15th day of March to commemorate the birth of lady Leizu and the "vision meeting".

Taohua Village

Taohua village, formerly known as taoshuping, is located in nanjinguan, Yichang City, on the North Bank of Xiling Gorge of the Three Gorges. Covering an area of more than 80 mu, it is adjacent to the Yangtze River in the south, Baima cave in the west, and the Yangtze River cableway in the East. From a distance, you can see Gezhouba and Sanyou cave. Because the local is famous for peach blossom since ancient times, it has the good name of peach blossom village.

Baima cave

Baima cave is located in nanjinguan, northwest of Yichang, at the mouth of Xiling Gorge of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. It faces the surging Yangtze River, the famous Gezhouba Water Control Project on the left, the beautiful Xialao River on the right, and the famous Xiakou Sanyou cave across the river. According to legend, the White Horse Cave was named after the four monks and disciples of Tang Dynasty and the white dragon horse who lived in the cave. The Baima Cave Scenic Spot is made of 13 huge pieces of white marble. It weighs 98 tons, is 6.68 meters high and 8.8 meters long. The white horse stone carving stands in the middle of the archway, like a horse whistling and a dragon foal lying back.

Xialaoxi

Starting from niupingya in Yichang County, Xialao river flows from north to south through baimuping, baimaling, qinjiamiao and jiangjiamiao, then to Nanjin and into the Yangtze River, with a total length of 26.7 km. It is said that in ancient times, in order to punish an evil dragon, he locked it at the bottom of Xialao River, the father of Dayu, the hero of flood control.

Yichang railway station can start direct trains from Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Wuxi, Xi'an, Taiyuan, Wuhan, Xiangfan and other directions, and become an important railway transportation route connecting Central South, southwest, Western Hubei and Eastern Sichuan.

Yichang railway station is 5 kilometers away, and No.10 tourist bus goes directly to the scenic spots.

1. Starting from the starting point, drive 12.7km in the urban area of Wuhan, turn right and enter Hanyang Avenue

2. Drive along Hanyang avenue for 3.7 km and turn right into Jianyuan road

3. Drive 393 meters along Jianyuan road and turn left to golden road

4. Drive along golden road for 2.8km, leave the exit of Hancai Expressway / Xiantao / Yichang / Zhengzhou / Beijing, and enter Hancai Expressway / S15

5. Drive 290.7km straight ahead, leave Wujiagang / Yichang east station exit (via Wujiagang toll station), head for Yichang east station / Dangyang and enter S107

6. Enter the urban area of Wujiagang district and drive 10.8km to the destination.
