Taishan temple in Pukou was rebuilt by Seng Deyuan in 1855. At that time, there were only middle hall and back hall, but no front hall.

In 1879, Huang Shilin, the commander-in-chief of Pukou defense army, ordered 132 steps from the foot of the mountain to the entrance of the temple. In 1952, Mount Tai Temple was destroyed. In June 1986, Pukou District government handed over the temple to Nanjing Buddhist Association. The City Buddhist Association has allocated more than 100000 yuan to carry out comprehensive renovation from the mountain gate to the temple hall, and renamed the Taishan temple as "Taishan Temple", and sent nun Longyue to preside over the temple affairs. In 1996, a new Sutra library was built. In 1999, the mountain gate was rebuilt and the Shanxi side wall was built. At the end of the same year, the construction of the East Gallery House and the inner courtyard wall began. The material exchange meeting is held here once a year, which has continued to this day.

Worship in the temple

There are 27 large and small gold decorated Bodhisattvas and 16 portraits of venerable figures in Taishan temple. There is also a 1.2-meter-high seated Buddha in Burmese jade. There are also one statue of Taishan's old grandmother and one statue of the goddess of envoys. Among them, the old mother of Taishan is mainly King Bixia. It is said that she is the daughter of Huang Feihu, the God of Mount Tai.

Before liberation, March 28 of the lunar calendar was the right time for the temple fair of Mount Tai. When it came to the fair at dawn, people were carrying the "umbrella of the people" donated by the faithful men and women and carrying the statue of "mother of Mount Tai" to patrol the streets. At the same time, folk art programs of four townships and eight towns in Jiangbei region (including Pukou, Jiangpu, Liuhe, Chuxian, Hexian, Laian, etc.) gathered in Pukou Dongmen town. Yu followed closely, performing dragon dance, lion dance, stilts, dry boat, fisherman catching mussels and other programs in the street. The more dancing, the more joyful in the sound of firecrackers; somersault, folding, the more skillful, the crowd cheered. After the ceremony of "going out of the fair and patrolling the streets", the statues were sent back to the original place of the temple for worship. During the temple fair, the peak of Xuanhua mountain is another scene: people come and go all day long to burn incense, make vows, return vows, pray for God's blessing, give children and eliminate disasters and diseases; some devout Buddhists, carrying sachets, start from the first level of the stone steps at the foot of Mount Tai Temple, kneel and kowtow to the temple hall. Inside and outside the temple, the sound of wooden fish, cigarette smoke and strong religious atmosphere make it one of the Buddhist resorts in Jiangbei area. After liberation, the temple fair was used to hold a material exchange meeting, which was held once a year and has continued to this day.
