Hero Garden

Hero park is built to commemorate the martyrs who liberated Xiamen and attacked Gulangyu Island. It includes three parts: small memorial square, memorial sculpture and memorial room.

At the end of September 1949, the tenth corps of the Chinese people's Liberation Army liberated the southern Fujian mainland, forming a situation of encircling the KMT troops in Jinmen and Xiamen. On October 15, the 31st and 29th armies of the regiment launched a cross sea battle against Xiamen. At 18:00 on that day, the fleets of 271st and 277th regiments of the 31st army took the lead in marching from Haicang and other places to the southwest of Gulangyu in two routes. With the close cooperation of the former shipmen, the brave PLA officers and men fought against the wind and waves, braved the fierce artillery fire of the defending enemy, and bravely advanced to land on the beach at the foot of the mountain. For a while, the artillery fire was flying, and the thunder and lightning were collapsing; the army's voice was killing, and the air captured the seamounts. Wang Xingfang, head of the 271 regiment, and other hundreds of officers and men, as well as Zhang Shuijin's family and other former shipmen died in the battle. After two days of bloody fighting, our army finally liberated the whole island of Xiamen and Guzhou and won the final victory. Castle Peak disease loyal bone, history glory heart. In 2000, the people's Government of Gulangyu built a "hero Park" on the mountain, blending the glorious revolutionary history with the beautiful scenery of the south, so that people will never forget the baptism of blood and fire in the past in the shower of strong winds and waves.
