Chenghuang Street

Chenghuang Street

The northwest end is linked to Guanyin Pavilion, red fish street and WAN Deng lane. The southeastern side is linked to land street and sugar street, and is named for the stone lion Town God's Temple.

In the 41st year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty (1562), Japanese pirates captured Yongning Acropolis, burned, killed and plundered everywhere, and people fled one after another. One of them, Miao Zhu, with a statue of Yongning City God on his back, fled to Kuanren, a stone lion, and fell down when climbing the stone steps at the southeast end of the lower street of Guanyin Pavilion. Therefore, in this shed set up a place, built a temple to worship, incense flourished. Around Town God's Temple, all trades and professions emerge as the times require. Vendors set up shops and build streets on this street. This street is called "Cheng Huang Street". In the 1930s, Chenghuang street was widened and houses on both sides were demolished and built. Chenghuang street has become a arcade street with Nanyang style
