This book focuses on the local architectural environment and cultural heritage of Fangyan, as well as the development process of a street, a temple and an academy in Fangyan, which are interdependent, promoted and restricted in the past thousand years.

We are unable to return to the past, but we are determined to use all our experience to do some research work on vernacular architecture immediately. I seem to hear all kinds of helplessness and hardship between the lines. But at the same time, he also firmly and dignitarily announced the "we" determination! I was lucky to be a member of "us" in the last semester when I was going out of the University. I joined Mr. Chen, Mr. Lou and Mr. Li in the research of the two villages. At that time, the conditions of the local group were very difficult, but my seven classmates and I felt very lucky and worked very hard. After seven years in the United States, I joined "us" again. When I walked into the hut with the ferocious door god on the door again, I was told to "go up the rock" for two days. Before going to Fangyan, Mr. Chen Zhihua said, "Fangyan has a street, a temple and an academy.". It is a typical Danxia landform with steep four walls and horizontal grooves and caves. To appreciate the magnificence of this danyan hill, I quote Mr. Yu Dafu's masterstroke: all the mountains near Fangyan are steep cliffs, with a height of two or three hundred feet and a surrounding area of three or five to six or seven miles. There is no big difference in the area between the peak top and the peak foot. The shape of the peak is square or round, just like a huge column supporting the sky. In Jiangsu and Zhejiang areas, there are many places with beautiful scenery, temples and academies, but few commercial streets of the scale of Yanxia old street can be formed. The relationship between them is simply that the existence of Chen Liang's lectures and Wufeng academy has laid a cultural foundation for the development of Yanxia old street, while the vigorous incense of Guangci temple and Hugong temple is the driving force for the economic development of Yanxia old street. Although this is not wrong, it ignores a mystery. The buildings of "temples" and "academies", as well as the ritual activities they hold every year, are supported by the generations of the local famous families, so that they can survive for a hundred years. In other words, no matter how well-known Zhu Xi and Chen Liang are, shoushankeng will remain silent with the departure of Zhu Xi and the death of Chen Liang if there is no contribution from Ying, Cheng and Lu in the future. Even if Hu Ze has been an honest official all his life and loved by countless people, if there is no great promotion from Hu Ze's descendants and Guangci temple in the future, he will not be able to go through several dynasties and generations Still enjoy the fragrance of the world. What is more important is the mutual dependence and restriction between "Temple" and "academy" in the past thousand years. At the same time, scholars of that era were willing to travel around famous mountains and rivers nearby. They were very interested in where they went, so they chanted two poems, which would be copied among friends in the future. As a result, scholars and gentry from all over the country who went to Wufeng academy to study would inadvertently join the ranks of devout pilgrims, including the golden title of a scholar, the imperial edict of the great song Emperor, and the boasting of farmers in the field. These different voices, mixed together, compose the unique local culture and local charm here. There is no doubt that the architecture here is not only a part of local culture, but also its carrier and stage.
