In the 11th year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty, the American Baptist founded the Dengzhou Baptist Church in Penglai, which was the earliest Baptist organization and church in North China. In 1872, the Church of Christ was built on the west side of the south section of the town, which was called "Dengzhou church".

brief introduction

The church was originally an American style building, which was composed of a chapel and a bell tower. Due to years of disrepair and serious damage, it was repaired in 1987. The eastern chapel is a single-layer structure, with the altar facing east and West. There is a baptism pool in the center and dressing rooms on both sides. The chapel can accommodate nearly 400 people. The bell tower in the West used to be a three-story building with copper bells hanging on the wooden beams of the top floor. Every Sunday, the bell rings throughout the city. In 1987, it was transformed into a two-story structure. The first floor is the entrance (Hall). Facing the west, there are two doors leading east to the chapel, and the second floor is the storage room. Among the American missionaries who successively preached in the church, Ms. muradi had the greatest influence in the international religious community. She was the first female missionary sent abroad by the American Christian organization. Since 1987, foreign tourists have come to Penglai every year to pay a special visit to the "great American lady muradi monument" which was established in 1915.

It is also known as "gourd pear". It is one of the traditional fruits in Penglai and has a long history of cultivation. Bali pear has unique flavor and excellent quality. Its single fruit weight is about 200g, which is full of flavor

After ripening, the fruit has yellow skin, red halo on the sunny side, thin skin, milky white flesh, soft and soluble, plenty of juice, no stone cells (not astringent), sweet and fragrant taste, and sugar content as high as 15%. Penglai Bali has been honored many times in history, and won the gold medal at the second China Agricultural Exposition in 1995.

Bali pear is the only treasure in the western pear family. It is most suitable for fresh eating and is very popular with people (especially the elderly). Bali usually matures in early September. Because it is not resistant to storage and transportation, it is usually picked in mid and late August for storage, and eaten after it turns yellow. The climate and soil conditions of Penglai City are especially suitable for the growth of Bali pear. The cultivation area of Penglai City has been stable between 500o-6000 mu for a long time, with an annual output of 4000-5000 tons. The main producing areas are Wangzhuang, cunliji, gushidian, yujiakuang, Nanwang and other towns, and some of them are sold to the northeast and south every year.
