In the middle of the night, Deming, a fire burning monk in Lingyin Temple, got up and went to the kitchen to cook porridge. He heard a ticking sound and felt very strange. Looking at the window, the moon was bright. Where did the rain come from? So he opened the door, looked up, and saw that there were countless pearl like particles falling down from the moon on the mountain beside the temple. He watched, and when the small particles were finished, he went to the mountain to look for them. Find one, pick one. Find one, pick one The small particles are full and full. They are as big as soybeans. They are colorful and beautiful. He picked it up, picked it up from midnight to dawn, and picked up a full bag.

In the early morning of the next day, monk Deming showed old monk Zhiyi the small particles he picked up at night and asked him what it was. Old monk Zhiyi looked carefully for a while and said, "there is a big osmanthus tree in the Moon Palace, and there is a mang man named Wu Gang. He cuts down this osmanthus tree all year round, but he always does. Sometimes, if you exert too much force, you will shake Guizi down. Maybe this is the laurel in the moon palace

Monk Deming was very happy and said, "master, let's plant it so that we can see the osmanthus trees in the Moon Palace and smell the osmanthus fragrance in the Moon Palace."

So they planted the colorful small particles on the hillside in front of and behind the temple. After a few days, they even sprouted. In a month, the sprouts grew more than a foot high saplings and pulled out green leaves.

The osmanthus trees in the Moon Palace grow very fast. They grow one foot in a month and one foot in a year. On the second year's Mid Autumn Festival, they grow tall and big. Every tree is full of small flowers, some are orange, some are pure white, some are scarlet, and all kinds of colors. According to the different colors of Osmanthus fragrans, monk Deming called it golden osmanthus, silver osmanthus, red osmanthus Since then, there have been all kinds of Osmanthus around the West Lake.
