East Tower

The East Tower is called Yongguang temple. Located in Dongta street, Dadong District, Shenyang City, the East Tower was built in 1640 (the fifth year of Chongde) and completed in the second year of Shunzhi. It is one of the four towers and four temples in the early Qing Dynasty.

General situation

Emperor Qianlong once inscribed plaques for the four temples and hung them on the main hall of the four temples. The inscription on the East Tower was "ciyuqunling". The construction form of the tower is Tibetan Lama tower, which is composed of three parts: base, tower body and phase wheel. The base is a square waisted Xumi base with upper and lower frames. Two stone columns are erected at the four corners and in the middle of each side, thus forming three pot doors on each side. The stone pillars are carved with patterns such as baoxianghua and Xifan lotus. In the middle of each side, there are brick pots and flames, and there are tall and raised brick lions on both sides of the pot door. There are three layers of brick round altar base on the frame of the base. Above is the body of the pagoda. In the south of the pagoda, there is a niche for gods, and the niche is surrounded by beautiful cloud beads. On the top of the pagoda is the thirteen layer phase wheel, and on the top is the pagoda brake, which is composed of a copper casting inverted cover, sun, moon and pearl. The wind is hanging under the cover.

The original Hall of Yongguang temple in the East Tower, according to the records of Shengjing Tongzhi volume 97: there are five main halls, two stele pavilions, three Heavenly King halls, two bell and drum towers, and three mountain gates in Yongguang temple. There is a pagoda in the east of the temple, and there are 24 Buddhist rooms in the temple. The East Tower was restored in 1985 and turned into a park and scenic spot.

There is Shenyang Dongta airport near the East Tower. The airport was built by Zhang zuolin in 1921, formerly known as Fengtian East airfield. Before the completion of Shenyang Taoxian airport, it has always been the most important and largest airport in Northeast China. It is now out of service. Nowadays, Dongta airport, which is located in the urban area, has hindered the development of the city to a certain extent. The government of Shenyang and Dadong District has begun to discuss the fate of the airport.
