Former site of British Consulate in Wenzhou

The former site is located in Jiangxin Island. In 1876, the Sino British Yantai treaty added Wenzhou as a trading port. In April of the next year, the British Consul arrived in Wenzhou. In 1894, a three story western style building was built as a consulate. Covering an area of 1309 square meters, it is a three story brick and wood structure. It has a width of 14 meters and a depth of 11 meters. The main staircase is set in the middle entrance hall, with six rooms on each side. The facade is a pillar style veranda, with fair faced walls and brick windows. In 1895, another two-story building was expanded, facing south, 11 meters wide and 9 meters deep. In October 2019, it was listed in the list of the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
