Hongsheng ancient temple

Hongsheng is a sea god believed by Chinese people. Hongsheng ancient temple is located in Kau Sai Chau, Sai Kung, Hong Kong. It is a typical rural temple building. As the residents of Jiaoxi village make a living by fishing, they raise funds to build temples to worship the God of the sea, Hong Sheng, to ensure safety.

Historical evolution

According to the legend of the villagers and the inscriptions of the ancient temples, it has always been a regional temple in jiaoxizhou. It not only serves the fishermen to pray for happiness, but also has the social function of uniting the local community. Every year, Sai Kung residents hold large-scale celebrations at the Hong Sheng Temple and its adjacent open space in Kau Sai Chau.

The temple is funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The project was completed in 2000 under the supervision of the Antiquities and monuments office. With the full support and active participation of local villagers, the restoration project has won the outstanding project award of UNESCO "Asia Pacific Heritage Conservation Award 2000". Hongsheng ancient temple was listed as a statutory historic site on November 15, 2002.

Architectural features

Hongsheng ancient temple is a building with two entrances and three bays, and the hall is equipped with a central block. The altar in the main hall is dedicated to Hong Sheng, the king of wealth and silk and the God of Narcissus.
