Shiwuxuan

Shiwuxuan is a memorial building built in memory of shiwuxuetang, a school founded by the reformers in the late Qing Dynasty. It is located in the garden of Yuelu Academy in Hunan Province, facing baiquanxuan across the pool.

Historical evolution

After the failure of Sino Japanese War of 1894-1895, the national crisis intensified unprecedentedly. In order to promote the new deal in Hunan, under the activities of Wang Xianqian, the head of Yuelu Academy, and Tan Sitong, Hunan Governor Chen Baozhen, Xuezheng Jiangbiao, and censor Huang Zunxian played the imperial court in 1897. The school of current affairs was set up in Xiaodong street, Changsha. Xiong Xiling was the Premier (principal) of the school, and Liang Qichao was the chief Chinese teacher The school flourished for a time. Famous students include fan Yuanlian, Cai E, Fang Dingying, Yang Shuda, Tang Caizhong and others. After the failure of the reform movement of 1898, Chen Baozhen, governor of Hunan Province, and others were dismissed, the current affairs school was forced to stop running, and then it was changed into the realistic Academy. In 1902, it was changed into Hunan University. The next year, it merged with Hunan University, which was reformed by Yuelu Academy.

Venue collection

The inscription on the stele is written by Liang Qichao when he revisited the former site of Shiwu school in the 24th year of the Republic of China. There are also inscriptions on the stele, such as Li Xiaodan's Ba, Li kuangsong's Ba, Chen Yunzhang's Ji and Huang Zengfu's Shiwu Xuanji.
