Wuwei Temple

Wuwei temple, also known as "vegetarian Temple", was built during the reign of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty. It is located in mihong village, Miao Town, with a construction area of 920 square meters.

Located in mihong village, Miao Town, it is a famous Buddhist temple in the west of Chongming. It was built in Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty (1880 AD) with a history of more than 100 years. At that time, it covered an area of 6 or 5 mu, with 32 Temple rooms, including six main halls, namely, Daxiong hall, Tianwang hall, Dabei hall, pharmacist hall, dizang hall and Sansheng hall. Wuwei temple was founded and presided over by monk Shenglian. After that, self nature, Guangzhao, Zonglian, Guangren and other mages successively practiced and presided over the affairs of the temple. During the Buddha's Christmas, Buddhist believers from Qidong, Haimen, Changshu, Fushan and the west of the county gather here to worship the Buddha and offer incense.

In 1969, during the "Cultural Revolution", the houses of Wuwei temple were demolished, the monks scattered, and the Buddhist statues and Sutras were destroyed.

In 1988, sengmingzang, Guangzhao and others took advantage of the three warehouses built by the local production team to repair the ruins of Wuwei temple. In 1989, the houses and part of the land of Wuwei temple were returned, and the land for the Buddhist hall and the site for Buddhist activities were settled. In November 1993, the county people's Government approved the restoration of Wuwei temple.

In 1996, Wuwei temple was rebuilt in the north of the original highway. In January 1997, the main hall was built, with a height of 11.4 meters and a construction area of 288 square meters. In March 1998, the county government agreed to return the original Temple base occupied by mihong village to Wuwei temple. As a result, Wuwei temple has gradually improved its architecture. The Sutra hall, sengliao hall, and dining hall have been built one after another. The sutras, magic weapons, and banners are all available. The Buddha statues are solemn and surrounded by cigarettes, restoring the Buddhist jungle scene.

Wuwei temple has a construction area of 920 square meters and a self use land area of 4122 square meters. The temple affairs group was set up in 1993. In July 1995, it registered religious places and obtained the registration certificate of religious places. Before 2002, master mingzang was in charge of Wuwei temple. Since October 2003, master Xuanhong has been in charge of Wuwei temple. There are seven monks.
