Jinniu Street Mosque

Jinniu Street Mosque in Ming Dynasty: also known as Dongmen mosque, it is located at 41 Jinniu street in Kunming city. Founded in the Yuan Dynasty, it is an important place of worship of yiqilan religion in Kunming. It is the only well preserved Chinese architecture mosque in Kunming. It was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Panlong District of Kunming City in 1990.

Historical evolution

Founded in the Yuan Dynasty, it was built by the Hui people from the northwest on the Bank of Panlong River in the Yuan Dynasty, together with the Hui soldiers who repaired Panlong River by Sai Dianchi in Jinniu street. After the Bingchen mutiny in Xianfeng, jinniujie mosque suffered great damage. With the donation of the Hui people, the mosque was expanded and repaired in 1889. The main hall was changed into five rooms, and the hall, the ear room and the Jiaobai building were built. After being bombed by Japanese planes in 1941, it was rebuilt in 1943. Jinniujie mosque has been repaired for many times, especially in recent years. It has become the only well preserved Chinese architecture mosque in Kunming. It was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Panlong District of Kunming in 1990.

The main hall of the mosque is a civil structure with a width of 19 meters and a depth of 13 meters. It can accommodate more than 200 people,

Now the Jinniu Street Mosque has been repaired for many times. It has become one of the most popular places for Muslim religious activities in Kunming. It is also a window for many non Muslim friends to visit Kunming and learn about Islamic religion, culture, history, and local Muslim customs. Now it is a cultural relic protection unit in Panlong District of Kunming city.
