Tin Hau Temple in Chiwan
Chiwan Tin Hau palace is located at the foot of Xiaonanshan in Shenzhen, with beautiful scenery. Its establishment dates back to the Song Dynasty, and its momentum is magnificent. It was repaired many times in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and its scale is growing day by day. It became the most important temple of Empress Dowager in the coastal area at that time. In the early years of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, Zheng He, the eunuch of Sanbao, was ordered by Zhu Di, the emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty, to lead the boatman to the Far West and create the "Silk Road" on the sea. It flourished in Ming and Qing Dynasties
It is said that Chiwan Tianhou palace was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. Its original name was "Chiwan Tianfei Temple". This name has been used for nearly 400 years. It was not renamed "Chiwan Tianhou Palace" until 1684, the 23rd year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty.
After the completion of Chiwan Tianhou temple, its scale became larger and larger. By the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Chiwan Tianhou temple had become the largest Mazu temple in China's coastal areas. It is said that in its heyday, there were dozens of buildings and more than 120 houses in the temple, covering an area of more than 900 mu. The temple was majestic and magnificent. The most spectacular thing was that it had 99 gates, which was unique in the general Mazu temple.
The popularity of the queen of heaven palace in Chiwan is reflected in the grand occasion of worshiping.
According to records, the temple fair from March 15 to March 23 was very lively. At every temple fair, believers not only come to Shenzhen, but also Dongguan, Guangzhou and even Hong Kong. Businessmen set up shops on both sides of the temple and Shawan to sell all kinds of products. During the temple fair, hundreds of passenger ships stayed at Chiwan Port. There were as many as 20 people in the temple, 8 in charge of sesame oil and 6 in charge of cleaning.
