About the author

Shi Tao (about 1642 ~ 1707), a common surname Zhu, is named ruoji. His legal name is Yuanji, which is also called Yuanji. His name is Shi Tao, which is named balsam pear monk, dadizi, yizhisou and so on. He was born in Guilin, Guangxi, and the monk was born in Quanzhou (now the whole county) of Guangxi. Zhu hengjiazi, king of Jingjiang in Ming Dynasty. After the death of the Ming Dynasty, he lived in seclusion, and spent most of his life wandering around, practicing Buddhism and painting. In his later years, he settled in Yangzhou, where he lived as "Dadi thatched cottage". He died in Yangzhou in the 46th year of Kangxi and was buried behind Longqing temple in Shugang, north of Yangzhou city. Shi Tao was a representative of the innovators in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. He emphasized that painters should "borrow from the past to open up the present", advocated "self-reliance" and opposed blindly "imitating the past" to create their own artistic conception, which had a great influence on the formation of "Yangzhou eight monsters" later, so he said that "Shi Tao opened up Yangzhou"
