Sheshan has been an internationally famous Catholic pilgrimage site since 1940s. The Notre Dame hall on the top of the mountain was built in 1925. After 10 years of construction, it became the "first Catholic Church" in the Far East. Sheshan monastery was built in 1985. There are also astronomical observatory and seismic station built in 1990 on the top of the mountain for tourists to visit.

Sheshan forest hundred birds garden is located in the scenic Sheshan National Tourist Resort. It is jointly constructed by Sheshan National Tourist Resort Joint Development Corporation and Shanghai Wildlife Park Development Co., Ltd., covering an area of more than 20000 square meters. It is a new large-scale ecotourism scenic spot with the functions of sightseeing, leisure and entertainment. It is also one of the popular science education bases in Shanghai. There are more than 50 species of birds in the park, including Oriental White Stork, Red Crowned Crane and Green Peacock, which are first and second class national protected birds. Foreign introduced birds include Macaw, black swan, EMU and African ostrich.
