Chunrunlu

Chunrunlu is a famous villa. It is located by lixihu Lake in Hangzhou. Now it is 54 Beishan Road in Hangzhou.

Construction background

Chunrunlu was built by song Chunfang and his good friend Zhu Runsheng. There are two villas with fireplaces in the villa: the one outside is Zhu Runsheng's, which can be called "Runlu"; the one inside is song Chunfang's, which can also be called "Chunlu". The name of chunrunlu is one word from the names of two owners.

Song Chunfang (1892-1938) was born in Wuxing, Zhejiang Province. He studied in France in his early years. He was a famous dramatist and expert in French literature in China. He taught in Peking University and Tsinghua University and wrote song Chunfang on drama. He is rich in family and has real estate in Shanghai and Qingdao. Zhu Runsheng is a relative of the Song family and a banker.

At that time, song Chunfang invited famous professors from Peking University to live in Hangzhou. Cai Yuanpei was an earlier tenant of chunrunlu. In 1927, two Peking University Professors Ma Yinchu and Tan Xihong came to Hangzhou to teach. They were old friends of song Chunfang, so they settled in chunrunlu. Chunrunlu has become an unlisted guest house of Peking University. Xu Baohuang, Lin Fengmian, Zhang Xinhai and other famous scholars have lived in chunrunlu with their families. As for the celebrities who came to visit chunrunlu, there are Zhang Taiyan, Yang Xingfo, Xu Zhimo, Jiang Menglin, Xiong Shili, Ma Yifu, Ding Xilin, Liu Dabai, Gu Yuxiu, Li ximou, Shen Dingyi, Chen Bulei, Zhang Jingjiang, Hu Hanmin, Song Ziwen, Li Shizeng, Wu Zhihui

Hold activities?

The West Lake Expo was held in Hangzhou from June to October 1929. The main venue is the whole Lixi lake, and chunrunlu is just in the area of the venue. At that time, a "Expo bridge" was built in the Lixi lake, which was not far from chunrunlu, leading to the isolated mountain on the opposite bank, thus shortening the distance between different parts of the exhibition.
