”People in Hangzhou later placed the statue of Yang Mengying in the Si Xian temple in Gushan (built by Yang Mengying himself and dedicated to Li Mi, Bai Juyi, Lin Bu and Su Shi) for later generations. Therefore, Si Xian temple was renamed "Wu Xian Temple". Now, a memorial Pavilion and a sculpture of Yang Mengying are built on yanggongdi to commemorate. By Jingxing bridge.

Scenic spot background

Yang Mengying, named Wenfu, was born in Fengdu, Sichuan Province. He was a Jinshi in 1487, the 23rd year of Chenghua in the Ming Dynasty. He came to Hangzhou in 1503, the 16th year of Hongzhi. At that time, the West Lake had been blocked by fenfeng for a long time, and the west part of the lake was almost flat. Yang Mengying urged dredging to restore the lake surface. He went to the court to ask for permission, but dredging and restoring the lake was not good for some vested interests, which caused fierce controversy. It lasted for five years, and the dredging side was able to implement it.

From March to September in 1508, the government of Hangzhou used 8000 migrant workers to clear nearly 3500 mu of tiandang formed by occupying the water surface of the West Lake, dredged and developed the silt and fenchgrass produced in today's Xili Lake to heighten the Su dike, and built a north-south route on the Xili Lake, starting from the foot of Renshou mountain and Maling mountain in the north, reaching chishanbu and the east foot of qianliangsiling mountain in the south, connecting Dingjia mountain , Mianniushan, etc.

In the northern part of the dike, there were three bridges built in the Song Dynasty, and in the southern part, three new bridges were built. According to the name of Su dike, the later generations called the long dike "Yanggong dike" and the six bridges on the dike "Liliu bridge". Yang Mengying, the governor of Hangzhou, built a dike on the West Lake, learning from and inheriting the fine tradition of Hangzhou local officials since Li Mi and Bai Juyi of Tang Dynasty. However, dredging the lake and building dikes violated the interests of a group of powerful people who occupied the lake. As a result, Yang Mengying was strongly hated by local evil forces and impeached by a censor. After reconsideration by the Ministry of official affairs of the Ming Dynasty, Yang Mengying was demoted, but he was ordered to "use the people's resources in order to make the final contribution." However, he was finally defeated by the public and determined to restore the surface of the West Lake. He was demoted and transferred to shun Tian Fu Cheng and left Hangzhou.

Yang Mengying's dike construction has got due evaluation in history. Tian Rucheng said in his travel records of the west lake that after he dredged the lake, "the west lake began to return to the old days of the Tang and Song dynasties." He added: "Gai got Zizhan (sushi) at the age of 200 after Letian (Bai Juyi). After Zizhan, he got Wenfu at the age of 400.
